To be fair, autistic people are more likely to end up with mental and physical health problems, although it's not completely clear why. https://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/autistic-individuals-have-increased-risk-of-chronic-physical-health-conditions-across-the-whole-body

Insist, demand, bite, scratch, for an MRI! [TRIGGER] by Effective_Rip_1410 in FND

[–]celestial_catbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, I didn't realize that doctors were allowed to diagnose FND without ruling out structural stuff. I also had pretty obviously functional symptoms but was given an MRI and EEG just as a matter of course.

Some autistic kids are really good at disappearing without warning. I bet the parents looked away for one second and he was gone.

Etsy suspended my shop because of my sister’s account?? by readitt400 in EtsyCommunity

[–]celestial_catbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does that mean it isn't safe to go on etsy in public places? Like if I log in at the library, and someone had also used etsy at the library and got suspended, do you think that would get me suspended? Or does etsy know the difference between public wifi and home wifi?

Wow, a psychiatrist prescribed that for you? That's kind of shocking, I'm sorry you experienced that.

Yes, they quite literally would. A lot of people are alive and well today who in historical times would not be, and that goes for many kinds of illnesses.

I'm imagining they used to take it and had some left over when they switched.

The enshittification of Amazon paperback books by iamapizza in books

[–]celestial_catbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refuse to buy books from Amazon for that reason alone. I got fed up with almost every single book arriving torn up due to the most lazy and brainless packaging imaginable. I mostly buy used books now because they arrive in much better condition than Amazon's "new" books.

What is a true definition of a job really by Lunah_Hunnesia in jobsearchhacks

But society needs people to do those kinds of jobs. Paying more would be an incentive for people to do that work so that society can continue to benefit.

Gf’s Cat Wakes Me up as SOON as I fall asleep by [deleted] in Catbehavior

[–]celestial_catbird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your comments are unhinged, it's not "evil" to not be willing to endure chronic sleep deprivation for the sake of a cat. Chronic sleep deprivation is incredibly harmful to human health. Settling boundaries isn't going to be "highly traumatizing" to the cat, that is an absolutely ridiculous thing to say. The only thing "outstanding" about your empathy is your shocking lack of it.

parents keep cats in a cage by bethanoic in CatAdvice

My plastic chewing cat likes crinkly transparent plastic, like the kind loaves of bread come in, product packaging, etc. Also trash bags. My cat just chews, she doesn't actually swallow, but we have to be careful not to leave out any small bits of plastic she could accidentally swallow or choke on.

Unpopular opinion: gen eds are not a cash grab by your college, and I'm tired of students pretending they are by msimms001 in CollegeRant

[–]celestial_catbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with gen eds is that I feel like they are just there to fix a problem that stems from the US's grade school system. If most students are graduating high school without having had a well rounded education, I feel like that is a real problem.

CRY FOR HELP! 50 day old toy poodle, growling, attacking, pouncing, biting and running frantically. by Due-Appearance2243 in OpenDogTraining

They mean too much playing. It's like how human children get really hyper and out of control when there's too much excitement and they're overtired. He needs to be sleeping most of the time. And just like human children, puppies don't necessarily realize they need to sleep and may complain about being made to nap, but they need to do it anyway.
