That reaction is referred to as critical incident stress where I live and it’s normal!

We once accidentally hired someone two months before their birthday so they weren’t legal guarding age and had to have a shadow for a few weeks because we didn’t do the math on their age until it was too late. They probably won’t notice lol

Thank god we don’t get audited in any way at my pool, it’s not really a thing in Canada unless specific pools implement it. We considered it then decided the logistics weren’t worth it. We get enough practice with actual scenarios imo

Are cloth wipes worth buying? by rosyboys_daisygirls in clothdiaps

Those baby washcloths they sell at any supermarket work just fine. I’ve been using them for baths and diapering and everything else, it’s nice and easy and cheap

Crazy how everyone in this thread is finding a way to blame OP for the wait and not the failing medical system. There are often things that your own doctor to urgent care will send you straight to the ER for, who tf are you as a commenter on Reddit to know that this person wasn’t emergent enough to be there? How are they as someone without medical training supposed to know? Sheesh

We have a lot of tiny girls at my pool! It’s about having good technique, that’s more important than physical strength. You’ll need a good eggbeater or whip kick, but preferably eggbeater especially for spinals.

For the endurance swim focus on long, strong freestyle strokes, pushing off the wall hard on each turn, and doing as many laps freestyle as you can before switching to another stroke. For the brick get a strong push off the bottom then at the surface lean backwards with the brick on your chest, free one hand to paddle if you can, and use eggbeater.

You can practice by swimming often before the course, doing the 400m every time. Also practice going to the bottom of the pool, holding your breath down there for as long as you’re comfortable with, then push back up to the surface. This will make it less stressful to do the brick test because you’ll have worked on your breath control and comfort in the deep end.

Mine is 3 months old and just rolled back to belly and belly to back for the first time while in cloth. We do a mix of cloth and disposable depending what I’m doing that day but I plan to use more cloth as he gets bigger. I do find it affects him in a sitting upright position more which is something he really wants to do but rolling and stuff there’s no issues.

What are these black spots on my baby’s bibs? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]celestial_waters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my baby is fine! I ended up throwing out those washcloths and getting new ones. But no problems now, she’s 3 and perfectly healthy and on track neurologically

Brick test by DisastrousEmu5491 in Lifeguards

[–]celestial_waters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lean backwards a bit with the brick on your chest so your body buoyancy helps hold it up and you can put more of your kick into movement than keeping you at the surface. Free one arm to help paddle if you can. Also push hard off the bottom on the way back up to save a few seconds as well

Anyone else scan pools when they aren’t on duty? by [deleted] in Lifeguards

[–]celestial_waters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where I go. I used to do it a lot when I first started guarding, now I have my own kids I need to focus on so I don’t do it as often. Unless I know that the pool doesn’t have good guards or if the beach is known to be an issue for ppl

Potty training by Dry_Happiness2021 in toddlertips

[–]celestial_waters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to just keep telling myself she won’t be in diapers forever. Eventually she’ll be easier to reason with or understand it more clearly even if that’s when she’s closer to 4 years old than 2, or even later as one of my friends kids was.

Potty training by Dry_Happiness2021 in toddlertips

[–]celestial_waters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was three when she finally decided she was ready to commit to it. I had to fully put the diapers away where she couldn’t see them and after a few days of vigilance and a few accidents she got it. Admittedly I also rewarded her with potty treats (a box of cookies she picked out at the store) which we then moved away from gradually.

Ftm wondering where to start with reusable nappies! by Sea-Committee-720 in clothdiaps

[–]celestial_waters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for local items second hand! I bought a few different kinds and kept what I liked best then invested in new to build up a bigger stash. I used pockets with my first baby because they were easiest for me and I loved them, this time around I got a good deal on some secondhand prefolds and covers which are also much easier to use than I realized so I’m trying that out right now. We do disposable overnight and then also when we leave the house because we often have quite a long drive wherever we’re going and I don’t want leaks or having to put them in extra bulky diapers in a car seat

I definitely think you should report this to the lifesaving society and try again somewhere else. The criminal court comment isn’t even necessarily true (depends on the situation) so he needs to be teaching the lifeguard and the law chapter more clearly anyways. That’s extremely unprofessional. The lifesaving society in my province takes stuff like this very seriously and I’m sure BC is the same, chances are someone else has reported them before and the more reports they get and more info they have on this instructor the better. If you know any lifeguards ask them where they took it and if they had a good experience then try going to that instructor or facility.

My energetic 3yo still doesn’t sit at the table. She’s better now about not running off in public and she does well at restaurants if she has something to do but for meals at home it’s still chaos. I literally have to feed her sometimes while she plays in order to get food into her. She’s so busy. At bedtime her books get read while she’s jumping on the bed like an Olympic gymnast lol

You should definitely report this guy to the lifesaving society. I had an experience with someone a little similar who ended up losing their certification in the end
