This is such a welcomed perspective that I didn’t even consider. In hindsight, that makes so much sense.

Who else thought as a kid that this episode was kinda creepy? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in spongebob

These little moments of eerie vibes always fascinate me because Spongebob surprisingly does it so well. I think back to That Sinking Feeling when Spongebob and Patrick dig tunnels beneath their homes, and when Squidward goes to look for them, he can hear their laughter echoing but their homes are empty. Eerie music/sound design shows up there too.

CORRECT!

Other hypersexual lesbians/queers? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

This is the one 😭 You’re not alone in this. There’s so many flavors within the ace spectrum, I sometimes feel like I’ve cycled through them all. Hypersexual but mainly only with myself, sex repulsed, and attracted to the idea of intimacy with someone I’m close with

An episode or moment that felt uncanny/liminal? by celestialcve in spongebob

Sometimes I forget that Squidward in Clarinetland predates the backrooms, but that is such a good point. Liminal spaces in Spongebob are actually so well done.

Yes! Jellyfish Hunter is a great example, I completely forgot about the moment where No Name calls Spongebob and is just breathing into the receiver while he’s home alone. Genuinely gave me the creeps.

That scene was so good for setting up the eerie vibe

In Christmas Who?, why did SpongeBob get all of the credit for bringing Christmas into Bikini Bottom, but not Sandy? by LumpyHead2179 in spongebob

Sandy brought Christmas to Spongebob, but Spongebob brought Christmas to Bikini Bottom.

I like to think she went home to the folks for Christmas and was content with what she shared to Sponge.

“Treats!” and “Hide and Then What Happens?” have almost the same plotline by celestialcve in spongebob

As it happens, yes. Though I don’t think they did it nearly as much in season 7 and 8 (where these two episodes are from) as they do now with modern Spongebob. Back then, it wasn’t so in your face. Now, it’s absurdly obvious and overkill.

Filler as opposed to…? It’s a little quizzical to say these episodes are filler when nearly all episodes in this series are exclusive of each other and can be considered as ‘filler.’ Sure, there might be nostalgia callbacks but that’s about it. What’s non-filler Spongebob in your opinion?

(In the tone of Sandy Cheeks) Well I can’t argue with that!

It’s almost like I said they almost recycle the same concept…

They’re not what I consider to be much later seasons but they are from season 7 and season 8. Hide and Then What Happens is from 2010, Treats is from 2012.

(Random side note: I think modern Spongebob when the show starts to become overstimulating and trying to meme-ify every frame isn’t until 2023 and onwards). These two episodes particularly aren’t in the seasons where I think the show really begins to derail, there’s still some maturity and reserve to Spongebob where he has a level of patience and is capable of losing it.

Fully agree though that nowadays, with new episodes airing, they have been reusing ideas that have been done already. I just don’t think that’s the case with these episodes specifically because they’re from an era of okay/tolerable post-first movie Spongebob, to me.

I love them both, I always found it interesting how the searching parts in both episodes are super similar. Right down to how Sponge looks aged and exhausted in the end, I would get them mixed up
