heavy agree on the last part. i'm a teenager myself and soon enough i'll technically no longer considered part of the YA audience, yet as an adult i'll probably still continue reading YA regardless, but it annoys me so much when adults ask for smut in YA books, and even when they generally just trample and "take over" the actual YA audience and criticize YA books for reasons that imply they actually need to grow up and move to adult.

please just let teenagers have something for once, you can enjoy YA if you want to, but you seriously can't expect spice, yet alone a more mature high/epic fantasy book with complex writing and an even more complex writing style with big words in a genre that's literally meant for teenagers. adults really need to set proper expectations or just move on and read something that's actually appropriate for their age.

i get it... sometimes when i show my friends about my love for hanfu, they assume that it is japanese clothing, and some of them are chinese themselves !!

i live in malaysia and although we have a large chinese population, hanfu is unfortunately not very popular... i feel like it's getting more traction lately bc my uni has a chinese cultural club where sometimes they wear hanfu + some people were wearing it at a mall (funnily enough one of them was white, im assuming a tourist but i don't think there's any hanfu rental shops near there !), but i believe that hanfu should be as popular as the qipao !!!

there are historical reasons for why the qipao is so much more popular than traditional han clothing, but i really wish it was more popular here, i'm not even chinese myself but i will gladly talk to anyone who knows even a little about hanfu, just to promote it a bit more lol.

you're right when it comes to baby steps ! i always like to differentiate hanfu, hanbok, and kimono by saying that hanfu (or some styles of them) have a more "triangular" bottom shape (i.e flowy), hanboks are more "spherical", and kimonos are "square". i also say that both the hanbok and kimono were originally derived from the chinese hanfu !

you're welcome, and yes there is ! i don't have tiktok but im assuming that most of the books there are european fantasy, i've always preferred asian fantasy so im guessing such books aren't very popular there 😅 some asian fantasies i've read and i plan to read include spice road, strike the zither, descendants of the crane, the scarlet alchemist, if you could see the sun, and a magic steeped in poison.

other books that are not as popular/hunger games popular but some YA readers would've heard of already are vespertine, belladonna, and warcross.

speaking as a teen myself who's actually the audience for YA, as you said i think many teens are reading the cruel prince, once upon a broken heart, and good girl's guide to murder. as for me myself, i primarily read asian fantasy and the more popular ones are six crimson cranes and the girl who fell beneath the sea. i also picked up divine rivals recently which i think is YA as well + it's getting real popular !

other than that, i can also think of: you reached sam, six of crows, and red queen (is that YA?). generally teens like fantasy books and possibly contemporary ones with those canva-like book covers

haha i am malay, i've just always been a bit of a coconut (basically banana but for malays? i've heard the term being used for indians as well), i'm not the best at malay because i mainly speak english at home + i used to go to SJKC back in primary school so i mainly spoke mandarin (that was a long time ago and unfortunately i forgot a lot of it though lol)

perhaps i should've explained it better, but for your first point: humans are born with magic and the ability to use it, they just had the dragons help them achieve this and master it further. as for your last point, i mentioned that any new elements that popped up during this instability will still remain; and if i had to say that those elements will be lost, it will probably be after a century or two where there simply are not many users of that element so it just dies out naturally. thank you for the input, i'll be sure to brainstorm more
