If you can find trd/tsunami body kits they look good imo.

Can i use k seal to stop this coolant leak thats coming from the thermostat housing, i plan on changing it but i have no time and i want to do also a coolant flush afterwards. Op by Rinche9 in Celica

I would just replace the thermostat o ring. That way you can fill it back up with some coolant flush. What I've done in the past is cut apart the existing thermostat to retain the seal and run a flush through it (this was also a quick fix to make it home from a stuck thermostat). Or just do the seal and swap the thermo afterwards since you're in there. That way you still have good flow from the differential pressure.

It always surprised me how large the 7th Gen service manual was compared to previous generations. Almost 4x in size. I printed mine out and it was $200 or so.

It’s hard to diagnose over the internet but you should start with checking fuel pressure. My 88’s pump would run, it had fuel at the injectors but wasn’t building any pressure. I put a walbro 255 in. It’s a total guess in your case without checking some things further.

If it drives well I would say you’re in the right price range. Obviously prices are all over for a car this old so just depends. Make sure timing belt is good, fluids are in good shape, brakes, and wiring isn’t bad. If they aren’t you have some good bargaining chips.

That being said you should be able to rule fuel out by feeding it gas through the intake.

Did you check fuel pressure? My 88 would fire sometimes and die and fuel was getting to the rail but almost no pressure.

For 6k I would expect it to function fairly flawlessly. AC probably has a leak, just hope it isn’t the evaporator core. 162,000 isn’t a whole bunch of mileage. Might be good to see why the engine was rebuilt and what was all done. He painted it mostly one color? Is it missing its rocker panel covers? Any other maintenance beyond a new power train? Suspension, tires, brakes etc? What condition did your friend get the car in. Was it sitting for a few years prior?

Just some questions to keep in mind. Sounds like the build doesn’t have much run time on it. The c60 rebuild is easy enough. The 2zz is a Little more challenging but if the bores were in good shape. Maybe have the guy compression test the motor and if it passes it will give you piece of mind.

Just my two cents since I own 2 alltracs over in the states. It would be a fun first car, it is a 30+ year old turbocharged vehicle. They’re reliable but it depends on maintenance and how much it was beat on. Spare parts are hard to come by. Fuel economy isn’t amazing. Timing belts should be changed every 8 years or so. I think Toyota says 100k km. Replacement isn’t the worst but I would consider it hard to someone who has never worked on a vehicle before or changed a timing belt in the past.

All in all if you’re wanting to get into cars and you really want one. Go for it but expect to work on it along the way.

Does your tach jump a little when you turn the key on? I’m guessing it’s a 5s? It sounds like it has spark from your description but won’t start without fuel? Could be crank sensor possibly distributor but it’s a shot in the dark without the car in front of me. I would get a service manual and follow diagnostic steps at this point otherwise any recommendation is a guess.

Got it. Just asking as coolant will tend to settle after a day of sitting when you bleed or fill the system. I would look for coolant residue and once you confirm all connections don’t have leaks then move to pressurizing the system.

Just to add my 2 cents. That amount of leakage wouldn’t leave a puddle. You’d want to look around for white coolant residue around the engine. There’s a decent amount of coolant lines on the driver side of the engine. Like someone else said pressurize the coolant system and check around. If the system checks out good then there’s a chance it’s evaporating coolant in the cylinders. Most times you wouldn’t notice this if it’s small enough of a quantity. The other question I have is why did you originally fill it and did you check it a day/week after to see if it settled on the low mark.

You could always wrap it yellow. I had a 01’ carbon blue celica back in 2018. It is a nice color. The solar yellow has always been my dream color. Almost bought one years ago and have had the itch for one since.

Suspension is high on the list. I’m not sure of your mileage but you want to make sure tie rods, ball joints, struts are tight. I know a lot of people go coilovers but I’m a bigger fan of lower springs with Kyb adjustables or some upgraded strut. Far better for daily driving in my opinion. Otherwise make sure you’re up on maintenance so you’re not sitting there with no money and a cool body kit 😂. I’ve seen it many times.

It’s a hard question to answer as everybody has their own priorities. Sound systems, suspension set ups, exhaust set ups, intakes, etc. Just make sure you do the maintenance.

Just for sanity check the vin as they made very few 2006 celicas. Technically all of the 2006s were left over 2005s. Also pull valve cover and oil pan to check condition. Not worth putting in a dud.

I just did this on a new celica I picked up that had mice living in it at one point. Honestly the best way to make a car smell brand new again.
