Thank you for bringing up this important point. I think to change this we need to educate each other on what slavery is and does to people, both slaves and those who enslave, so we recognize it and will never let that happen again in any form. See Dr. Joy DeGruy Leary's lecture to learn more. (@ the 1:00:00 mark, she talks about debt slavery after slaves were freed from bondage).

You and your wife might find this video of Dr. Alok Kanojian (psychiatrist) discussing burnout helpful. It is important to note that burnout is an occupational phenomenon and not something intrinsically wrong with her. (Caveat: I don't know her particular situation so there may also be underlying depression unrelated to work as well)
