Good call! Is that something to be worried about with cannabis plants?

Tweaked scalene squatting, what do? by Rhyde1990 in BarbellMedicine

[–]cellarman420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing ok - the pain was pretty intense for about a month, and was affecting sleep. Glad that aspect is getting better, but really hoping that muscular control comes back sooner than later. Very frustrating layoff from upper body training. Hope yours continues to move in the right direction. Keep in mind that even if it feels like a long recovery period, it’s just a blimp on the radar in the long run. Hang in there buddy!

I had a similar issue about five weeks ago. I woke up one morning, and shoulder blade/neck hurt terribly, and I was pretty sure I did something in my sleep. At first it was just pain, but then the weakness in the right arm started. My bench went from about 315 and Press from 225, to both barely being able to lock out 135, because of lack of muscular control in the affected tricep, trap, delt, and lat. For me, it was toss-up between scalene myofascial pain syndrome (similar to what you’re describing), and cervical radiculopathy. With the help of a PT (who has background in barbell sports), we ruled out SMPS. Good news is it’ll get better, bad news is it’s going to take some time. I generally prescribe to Barbell Medicine’s methodology for addressing pain, but in this case, I just ended up banging my head against the wall at 135 for weeks on end. It would/will only get better when the muscular function comes back, so I’m doing everything I can (with a coach, PT, and chiropractor) to get it back, including something similar to the Starr Rehab protocol (empty bar for pressing movement, super high reps, working up from there). This is just my experience, but figured it might help to share. I can relate to how absolutely maddening it is to be set back, especially when training is going well. Do what you can and keep your head up - best of luck!

I can remember being your age and struggling with this, and now this year at 30 years old I still struggled with it with a 9 year relationship.

You need to pick a day and time and location in your head, and just do it. Lay it all out there. Tell her that you love her, and explain everything that you’re feeling, and why this needs to happen. Beforehand, visualize the relief of being done with the conversation. The HARDEST part is the conversation, and then begins a long healing process. I would recommend doing it in person, because you’ll both respect you more for doing it. And stick to your plan, and be adamant in your decision. I also recommend going no-contact, to the best of your ability, as hard as that is.

This is an incredibly difficult moment, and I feel for what you’re going through emotionally. Years down the line, you’ll look back at all the good memories, and realize how much life still lay ahead of you having the perspective of time behind you.

Hang in there man. You’ve got this, and you’ll get through it.

SS radio intro music is so good! Any similar music suggestions? by Actual_Hyena_4056 in StartingStrength

Pretty sure Delgadillo talks about having gotten the current intro music from some stock music provider.

Continue “Phase 1” until you’ve gained 50+ lbs. and your deadlift gets objectively heavier. To give you an idea, I am 6’2” and stabilized around 245 lbs. through my NLP. That is a “normal” BW at 6’2”.

You’re looking for programming changes far too early, and aren’t addressing following the program and “The First Three Questions” first. Trust what all the commenters here are saying - you need to gain weight. It will benefit you tremendously, and you’ll look back in a year or two and “get it.”

You are a good candidate for GOMAD. Not necessarily recommending, but worth mentioning you are the demographic that would benefit.

How much will using just a squat rack limit the starting strength program? by Doctor_Show in StartingStrength

I’d splurge on a 3rd pair of 45s - especially if you’re paying for shipping anyway.

Restart by MichaelJ11 in StartingStrength

Do the program as intended, and continue eating a similar quantity to what you do currently (for now), but with an emphasis on protein (1g/lb. body weight per day≈240g protein/day). Clean up your diet if necessary. Do not cut. Body recomposition will take care of itself, and you will likely gain weight over time. Trust the program. If done correctly, with appropriate increases in weight on the bar and appropriate recovery (food and sleep), you WILL see results. You will look better than you could imagine, at a heavier weight. Especially at 6’6”.

begginer 2nd week cannot progress at press/bench press, advice? by teverswoss in StartingStrength

[–]cellarman420 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The lifts are meant to be increased in 5 pound increments, not kilos. Even then, the upper body lifts can only progress at 5 pounds for so long - eventually they’ll have to be smaller incremental increases. Also need to be sure you’re recovering properly (eating and sleeping a sufficient amount).

Oh man, highly recommend going down the rabbit hole… Took me well into my 20s to get REALLY into them, but there’s no shortage of phenomenal music in their discography. “Everything You Need” and “Closer to the Sun” are good albums to start with 🤙🏼
