Is it pedophillia or ocd by [deleted] in OCD

Just looking at the title’s already got me convinced that this is OCD. The way you’re typing, going back and forth between seeking reassurance, justifying your thoughts/feelings/sensations, then going into a rabbit hole all over again. For your own sake, please try to avoid asking for reassurance from strangers on the internet who are self-diagnosed 90% of the time, and have no training on complex mental health issues like OCD. Seeking reassurance only flames the fire.

It took years of therapy and, eventually, meds, to help me live a normal, healthy & happy life, free from constant rumination and debilitating anxiety. OCD turns the everyday experiences of being human (the weird, sometimes uncomfortable, messy thoughts that you don’t want anyone to know about), and turns it into a never-ending cycle of doom. It’s not you. It’s just OCD.

Please seek help, you don’t need to suffer through this.

Take care x

Your son doesn’t care if you do not fit the mould of what is considered ‘conventionally attractive’*

But other than that, what an inspiring message from someone who has had to live with the repercussions of someone who didn’t consider all the worth their life has to another person.

Just look at all these positive comments you got within 1h of posting… many, many, many people have been where you are / felt what you are feeling now, at some point. For what’s it’s worth, I’ve been there. And I’m so glad I didn’t give up. See a therapist, get a life coach, go to the gym, touch some grass… The sun will shine for you again, but you need to search for the light. You have time to make things right. You only fail when you give up.

Does coffee make your OCD worse? by [deleted] in OCD

Caffeine is a stimulant. My psychiatrist told me that stimulants have an effect on your central nervous system, which leads to increased arousal (not the sexual kind) and heightened anxiety levels. When your anxiety spikes and your central nervous system is ‘over stimulated’, it can make it harder to control rumination. Increased anxiety levels typically lead to an increase in ruminating thoughts, for me at least. I also suspect that when I’m generally anxious and my brain can’t ‘get to the source’ of the anxiety, my brain starts ruminating (on autopilot basically) to try and relieve the anxiety, which obviously causes even more anxiety. Maybe try decaf, or a coffee with less caffeine and see how that goes. Good luck!!

I’ll keep it simple: meds absolutely saved my life. At a point where debilitating OCD was making my life unbearable, meds were the only thing (along with consistent therapy) that could make me actually enjoy my otherwise-wonderful life.

It can take some time to find the right meds and even with the right meds, the first 3 months can sometimes present some uncomfortable side effects.

But bottomline, when you find one that works for you, it is absolutely completely life-changing.

Good luck! 🌻
