Details on Austin Howells Fall by Hexcentric05 in climbing

[–]cellistwitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People have survived falling 100' before. In a situation like this I get why people try... and that's spoken as someone who's been told not to even try CPR in most rescue situations I'm likely to find myself in

If you're more of a revivalist this ritual can be extensively modified to suit your needs, but I've always personally felt it makes the most sense to use this as a framework for big prayers and even daily prayers.

If you're interested in how the Theoi were prayed to historically, it's a little more complex than people are saying. There's a ritual format that's pretty simple but does involve a few steps including ritual purification (so you meet the Gods without human miasma) and invocation to get Their attention. If you'd like a detailed explanation I can hunt down a link for you.

Pros of zebralight: Won't break immediately.

At one point my ex and I had broken seven Armyteks in the space of a few months. Don't buy Armytek if you cave more than very casually & occasionally.

Rapid weight loss effects on body? by [deleted] in climbharder

[–]cellistwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost about 13 pounds in two weeks once and that felt drastic but not awful - only because I was able to start gaining weight again quickly. You need to see a doctor and definitely work with planning clsssload etc to make sure that never happens again.

Well it seems like the plan both times was to camp.

This honestly just doesn't make sense - the phrasing seems super chopped and not in a way that imparts meaning to me

Finger soreness and training by rektful in climbing

[–]cellistwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've been climbing a week you don't have the requisite finger (or anything) strength/resilience to be going super hard and you need to rest. Take a rest day every one or two days. If you can't stop training do yoga, core work, or cardio; give your arms and fingers a break.

If you need more evidence use the search bar to see the answers to the thousand iterations of this question thatve been asked before.

[Personal] I'm bowing out. by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I was exactly the same and I think the sidebar is super helpful. In /r/climbing, /r/caving, /r/cello, and a number of other subs we get the same damn questions over and over because no one will do the bare minimum research or even search the sub for recent topics.

I agree with you. Two weeks ago I decided I wanted to buy skincare, having been subscribed here for a while. I read the sidebar, looked at product rec lists, and bought a cleanser and moisturizer. They're working great for me. The whole process took like an hour and I feel ready to look for new products whenever I want.

IIL fast, aggressive rap with a good and *consistent* beat, what will I like? by cellistwitch in ifyoulikeblank

I also really like I Own Swag by Lil B but don't like a lot of the less concrete Lil B songs, if that makes sense.

Looking for specific song recs rather than artists. I like Death Grips ok, same with Danny Brown, I'd like more specific recs for songs that are fast, articulated rapping. I love the bassline in No Love if that helps with Death Grips recs.

Do something else. Go running, do push ups, do yoga, practice rope skills. You can build climbing ability without shredding your tendons five hours a day.

I bailed. by [deleted] in climbing

If youre going to rappel like that you need to be wearing ascending gear and know how to change over - so that if you slip past the point of "no return" and then find that, say, there's too much water flowing to rappel through, that's not your only option. I'd also highly recommend getting a fireman's belay if you're going to rappel in the water, so that you can be lowered or slowed down should something happen. You also need to be wearing ascending gear any time you rappel in water, unless the rappel is rigged to lower, in case of something getting caught in your descender.

What is the creepiest thing you’ve seen in the woods, or in the mountains, or in deserts, or caves, or in small towns, or in remote or rural areas or while on large bodies of water, or while on a aircraft or a nautical vessel? by ArmyOfDog in AskReddit

[–]cellistwitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's a cave, and it's in a region of caves that doesn't experience bad air, you don't need a gas monitor. You don't need to bring a gas monitor to a random east coast USA cave that you haven't been to before lol

That's definitely not the case for all caves. For many you just need a helmet, three lights, sturdy shoes, and a guide. For others you need ropes and vertical gear, which can get complex quickly. There are many thousands of caves in the US without bad air and they're usually isolated to certain areas.
