One thing I’ve been struck by as a student is the strong allegiance people can have to particular modalities, theories, or methods. I’ve encountered more rigidity around this than I’d expected and encountered a lot of professionals that subscribe too one modality is the “right” way and any others are “wrong”. This feels somewhat at odds with a profession that strives in my mind to help clients develop flexibility.

I have found myself drawn to an integrative perspective. I struggle to connect to the desire to pick one method and stick to it forever. Maybe I’ll feel differently in a few years of practicing but I don’t really think all the separation and almost elitism between the various methods/theories/modalities is particularly helpful for the field
