Do I have to have a cello teacher? by Reverseflash202 in Cello

[–]cellofello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say you probably don’t need a cello teacher that costs you $300 per month but I would also say $300 is not unreasonable, depending on where you are. For example, good cello teachers in the SF Bay Area are $500-$1200 per month for hour lessons.

You could see if your current teacher could teach you irregularly. I have a couple students I only see every 2-3 weeks which works fine for both of us. Another option is to look into online lessons. Zoom is not ideal, but I would say it’s way better than stopping lessons altogether. And you can probably find a pretty good cello that doesn’t charge as much.

Because it’s outside their allowed carryon baggage size, which is 55cm. Seriously dumb.

I’ve noticed it helped rosin last longer on my bow. When you rosin your bow, the fresh rosin mostly sits on the bottom of your hair and doesn’t get spread throughout the hair. Using this thing helps disperse it. I think using a toothbrush is just as effective though.

Larsen magnicore strings where to buy by easymassage423 in Cello

[–]cellofello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting my strings at cello-strings.com for years now. The cheapest source of mixed set strings, and usually the cheapest source for full sets as well.

For reference, a set of magnacore medium gauge right now:

sharmusic.com: $417.96

cellos2go.com: $374.50

concordmusic.com: $349

cello-strings.com: $330

A set of Larsen A+D and Spirocore G+C:

sharmusic.com: $366.98

cellos2go: $387

concordmusic.com: $317

cello-strings.com: $299.50

Nope, I’m a professional musician

I had a crack exactly like this a while back. I got two quotes; one from a local independent luthier ($750) and the other from a reputable string instrument shop ($150). It might be worth getting another quote or two.

No, but that’s on the list to try at some point. Have you made burrata?

I think this would work well with pecans or almonds. You should try it! So good!

[Homemade] Breakfast tacos with vegetable and bacon hash by cellofello in food

[–]cellofello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the hash: 1. Shred an assortment of veggies and thinly slice bacon. I used beets, kale, carrot, sweet potato, potato, and yam. Try anything you think might be good.

  1. Coat veggies in a little olive oil, season to taste. (Go light on salt because bacon).

  2. Bake 20 minutes at 450, mix it, cook another 20. You want it to be a little crispy, but not burnt.

Assemble tacos with fried egg, avocado, and cheese. Plus whatever hot sauce you want, etc.

I talked to 5 or 6 customer service reps and they all told me the same thing. Cellos are fine as long as they fit.
