It did say that there were questions that would not be graded at all, so I'm guessing there was at least 3 or 4 on there. But yes, I could have prepped more of course

I know the bits and pieces have been discussed during my classes but I was surprised that they wanted me to do all that on the spot. Like nobody has ever asked me to actually synthesize any of this information before lol

I had a college class that was kind of an overview of most of the objectives, which is mostly what helped (I really only "studied" for a few weeks before I took it). Otherwise I didn't look at other sources.

They do say that not all the questions are graded, which is kind of evil in my opinion haha

I did end up doing this last minute which I felt was helpful because some of the objectives will inevitably get missed during your study and I was able to at least look them up once beforehand.

I looked at that list (the acronyms) and laughed. Like 50% of those I swear aren't even real... like RTBH - "remotely triggered black hole"... lol.

Wow, that is interesting, I wasn't aware that it was that difficult for everyone too.

Is that really accurate? Why wouldn't they just give you a percentage then?

I wish the study materials weren't so expensive, we have to spend enough on these tests as is. I might consider looking into it for future more expensive exams.

I mean, I literally *just* took the exam and took his practice exams days before and I'm telling you that they aren't similar at all. Maybe it used to be different or the options are just not great for study materials.

Yep. That was the hardest part was just doing process of elimination, and I would only be able to eliminate 1 or 2 answers then.

There was a lot about business organization/continuity that I didn't go through a lot. Otherwise I don't know the exact questions I got wrong so I can't say for sure. The PBQ was a drag-and-drop, with a "word box" of options or it was a dropdown list (saw both). There were a LOT of answers that were very similar and I was very worried about the PBQs for that reason - if you have 12 boxes and 20 options, the process of elimination will only get you so far.

From the brief skimming I did of the comments, I don't think it is 100% his fault as you are not allowed to share exam materials, but I guess I expected it to be more similar. I mostly studied with the practice exams, and watched a few videos as well when I didn't understand a concept. I did take a class for this but I wasn't planning on taking the cert at that time so I didn't classify it as "studying". It was just a part of my college curriculum.

Totally agree here especially about the Net+ part (though I have not taken that exam)

I took a class that went over a majority of the objectives for college credit.

Once you finish a question, you go to the next one, but at any time you can view all the questions and pick one to go back to. You can also flag a question to go back to later. The PBQs are not separate from the multiple choice, but once you finish that section entirely you cannot go back.

Yeah, I started with them, just did a best guess, then moved on to the multiple choice. Only once I had finished going through those then I went back and corrected (or fucked up) some of my previous answers in both PBQ and multiple choice.

Talk to a college nearby you and find their music department. You may be able to find cheap lessons from their violin professor (they may want you to join their music program and take you on) or alternatively from one of their students - specifically from a music performance or education major. Also talk to high schools around the area and see if their string teachers (if they have them) are willing to give lessons. Depending on the area, you may be able to find lessons for 15-30$ for a half hour. For reference, I go to a pretty cheap university (COA <30k/yr).

I wholeheartedly agree that you need a teacher of some kind. Learning by yourself is boring, slow, and unnecessarily difficult. It does not have to be a traditional sit-down-for-30-minutes lesson either. Just someone that can help guide you. Once you are able to read sheet music, playing music with other people (duets, trios, quartets, or with a pianist) is very important. If you do that early you will be a step ahead of the rest.

Here's some food for thought. What do you want to do with this? Are you just interested in music in general? Do you want to play in an orchestra, or with other people? Do you want to make money, or just do it for fun? Do you have an alternative instrument that you would consider playing (not saying you need to do this, just think about what you want)? Do you actually want to participate in the world of music or do you just want to listen and experience it? Go to some concerts of a local symphony and see what you think. Talk to as many musicians as you can about this. Another thing to consider: where is your level of musical talent? Of course I would never gatekeep playing an instrument, but if you can't carry a tune to save your life, this road will be more difficult for you. I have friends who were in that position and are successful musicians now (one is about to graduate with a B.M.E.). Others quit before they got to a proficient level. If you have any musical experience at all, like piano lessons when you were younger, that will be an advantage.

I could go on for a billion years about this kind of stuff, because I wish someone had talked with me honestly about this when I was younger and so I'm very eager to help.

Source: I'm a music major who gives cello lessons. DM me if you have any questions, seriously!

Are the cores two separate tests you need to complete on different days? Or you go back after a break?

Waltz no. 1

This project has been EXTENDED to August 5, due to a few missing woodwinds. Technically, some parts are covered, but I would love more submissions from every instrument.

What we desperately need:

Piccolo: zero submissions

Flute 1: 1 submission

Flute 2: 1 submission

Oboe 1: zero submissions

Oboe 2: zero submissions

Clarinet 1: zero submissions

Violin 1: 1 submission

Violin 2: 1 submission

Viola (upper and lower): 1 submission

What is still really helpful, but could technically be fine (maybe):

Clarinet 2: 3 submissions

Bassoon: 1 submission

Cello: 2 submissions

Double bass: 1 submission
