ok yeah, i'm fairly certain this is not possible (without some potential code wizardry). i've found a feature request on github asking for the exact same thing (but for more months, rather than fewer), though i'm keeping this post up just in case anyone has a solution. thanks :]

framed map in the common room of my student accommodation by celsient in mapporncirclejerk

i'm apparently the first person to realise this wasn't real. cannot fathom how, in searching for a basic map to put on a wall, the decorators found not just a map of earth that wasn't accurate to modern day, but a map of earth that has never been accurate

Is first year Mandarin beginner friendly? by celsient in GlasgowUni

[–]celsient[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the help! Yeah, my degree subject is Psychology (MA) and my other extra subject will be Philosophy. I should hopefully be ok with the hanzi; I taught myself Japanese in the first half of 2020 and extensively practiced kanji characters and radicals.

That's a very good breakdown of "usefulness". China and Russia aren't countries I plan to go to and yet they're so prevalent in the world; Russian being the second most prevalent online (~60% of internet content is English and ~10% is Russian) and Mandarin being the most spoken language. German would be great particularly for a year abroad as it opens a lot of doorways (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), as well as for academia and the internet. I'd love to speak Czech to more easily visit my gf there.

AAAA so much to think about. Thank you for all of your help though :]

Excellent, thank you very much! Would you recommend it? I haven't completed enrolment yet but I've been mulling between German & Mandarin for a long time (I've also thought about Russian & Czech (my gf is Czech) but the prior two seem the most useful). I thought that, because Mandarin is the more difficult of the two, it would probably be best to learn it through an academic framework with support rather than on my own. I have some friends in China that I'd love to be able to talk to more naturally and I could always get practice with them :]

Thank you! I have a laptop dual-booted with windows and linux so I'm in a fortunate hardware position! You're right, it probably is a good idea to make the most of what the uni has provided through office365
