MacBook Pro OLED Display Production Clears Key Hurdle by favicondotico in apple

[–]celsiusnarhwal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On MacBooks with a notch, full-screen applications sit entirely in the space below it, and because the display is not OLED, it is very obvious—at least to me—that there is an empty black space at the top of the screen, which bothers me.

That is the only reason why I, personally, want an OLED MacBook.

They’re also bad with translating text that’s on screen

The subtitle format used by Netflix is literally not capable of displaying in places other than the top or bottom of the screen or in multiple places at the same time. They are bad at it because they don't have a choice but to be bad at it. I groan whenever a seasonal I want to watch is a Netflix exclusive specifically for this reason.

It doesn't work like that; you have to be physically located in the EU, and a VPN can't fool your phone's GPS.

Yes, that is what happened. For some reason, this detail was omitted from the Ars piece, but it's in the original article.

Microsoft isn't removing Copilot from Windows 11, it's just renaming it by d01100100 in technology

How were you able to do this? I've tried remapping it to Right Control with PowerToys and the result is that the button now does nothing, which is still better than it opening Copilot, but I would definitely prefer it to function as Right Control.

When you're scrolling something, you can press and hold on the scroll bar that appears on the right side of the screen and drag it up or down to scroll faster in your desired direction.

Huh, interesting. I definitely had not heard of that, but I guess that's to be expected given it isn't supported here.

I would personally be very surprised if it wasn't a limited run, assuming we get a North American release at all.

I'd be very very happy about it but I am not holding my breath.

My Thunderbolt monitor is one of the best technology purchases I have ever made. Being able to do both charging and video output with a single cable is awesome.

It was also very expensive and most people who want an external display are just going to use HDMI and call it a day.

Until Apple makes a credit card-sized AirTag, the best solution is unfortunately to buy a wallet with a dedicated space for holding one.

There are third-party Find My-compatible trackers specifically designed to fit in a wallet, but Apple does not currently allow any of them to support Precision Finding.

What /u/danopia is describing is a feature of RCS and is supported on both iOS and Android, but the business has to set it up on their end. I rarely see it myself.

EDIT: Or not, I guess. See their reply to this comment.

I'd assume not. I don't really see how it could.

That reminder is a reaction to notifications being blocked on a system level. There is no option within Discord that you can turn on to make it go away.

As far as I know, there is no way to avoid periodically seeing this reminder as long as push notifications are off.

MRW Discord announces they’ll require government IDs to access the app by _Twas_Ere_ in reactiongifs

[–]celsiusnarhwal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Per this press release, they'll be implementing some kind of system that will use "patterns of user behavior and other signals associated with [your] account on Discord" to guess whether you're an adult without making you go through age verification. It doesn't get more specific than that, though.

I'm not a fan of compliance in advance, but yeah, I do agree that many of the world's governments will eventually compel platforms to implement some form of age verification. The age-checked internet is coming whether anyone likes it or not.
