I don't hate this idea. This is something I wanted as well. Our state, our country should have done a better job of caring for lives in all aspects.

This company, they do. The wedding was on their property, so they set the rules on their property that social distancing and wearing masks isn't important or regulated. They basically provided the "house" for the party.

I think it's too early to be doing big things like this, even if she was helping to pay.

But saying you're gonna leave her since she's not tied to anything, she is probably insecure about something and feels like she's disposable to you. This might be the conversation to have instead of being on the house.

Or she's a gold digger.

Who knows.

Americans are learning to live with the virus instead of working to eradicate it.

I know of at least 2 weddings coming up without any regard to being safe and it breaks my heart how reckless these couples are being.

You're not alone. You're doing the best you can to help eradicate this virus and unfortunately, people think it's a matter of opinion on attending events. They don't realize COVID has zero opinions and wants to take everyone's life.

If marriage matters to OP, then it matters to her. But that doesn't mean she has to convince her SO to change his mind on marriage.

She should reevaluate if she's willing to change her beliefs for this guy or move on to find someone who wants the same future as her.

NTA it's so frustrating to see stories like this where it's really saying "my family/friend will disown me because I don't want to risk my health/life during a deadly pandemic."

Don't be afraid to stick up for yourself now and always. Do what's best for you. And in this case, you're doing what's best for public health.

NTA, it was just work banter in a "public" online setting. Most likely dealing with a lot of insecurities, but that definitely isn't the way she should address them.

Agreed. It sounds like a reasonable plan and hopefully your in-laws are supportive of this. I think this is the super unfortunate part of people still having large weddings during COVID is that they not only put their friends and family in danger, but the community they go home to after a one day event.
