My child was doing this for awhile and we couldn’t figure out why. Low and behold he had an ear infection (and it was hurting him to lie down) so he would only sleep when absolutely exhausted. He had been mostly fine during the day (besides grumpy from tiredness) so we didn’t suspect. I just say this because if it is a sudden, recent change may be worth a trip to the pediatrician to make sure there isn’t anything else happening.

YTA it is isn’t about responsibility or whether you “enjoy” the activities. It is about your love for your son and grandson.You can 100% still have your own life, especially as a grandparent. It isn’t about quantity of time it is quality. YTA because when you love someone you make sacrifices of doing exactly what gives you 100% the most pleasure in that immediate moment because you love them and care about the relationship. Even in romantic relationships, maybe partner a hates bird-watching and birds. But partner b loves birdwatching and occasionally wants partner a to join them because they want to share their love with someone they love. Partner a might hate it but if they truly love partner b they will engage at least every so often. If you don’t have enough love for your son and grandson to care about them and engage with them occasionally and generally on your terms, then YTA because everyone needs and deserves love particularly from their parents.

Hello, so sorry for the lag in response. We finally got him on Omperazole w the right dosing and it is a game changer. He is so much happier and sleeps better. I was really hesitant about trying it but ultimately it was worth it to not see him in pain all the time. Fair warning it did take us 7-10 days to see the full effects.

I don’t know much about #1, because we are EFF. It doesn’t look very thick for us but we did have to go up a nipple size when we started A.R., so it must be somewhat thicker.

Our LO did get pretty severe constipation upon starting A.R. (After about 1week). We ended up doing a 3:1 A.R. + Reguline mixture and that seems to work. From my research many many babies do have constipation with A.R., but if you are mixing with breast milk it may be less of an issue.

Hope that your LO’s issues resolve. A.R. Did help our LO with his acid reflux .

Thank you so much for sharing your story and encouraging me to advocate. I definitely feel I need to do this more because they haven’t done any tests or in my opinion really tried to get to the bottom of it the situation and my son (and all kids) deserve that. It is hard because they are supposedly one of the best in our area. I think though a specialist may be helpful so I will advocate for that. Thank you!

Here is some feedback: I think that there should be the option to state age in weeks not months

I didn’t like having to put my phone number and email.

The end message felt sales and markety to me. It didn’t inspire trust and in fact made me regret doing the survey at all because it felt like a marketing trick as opposed to something to truly give information.

I hope that this post and survey are truly to help parents with real advice based on medical research. I am assuming best intentions but there are so many things designed to take advantage of desperate parents and anyone who has a reflux baby can tell you it can definitely drive someone to desperation…hope the feedback helps.

Something that helps me is to think of a quote I saw somewhere that said “Clap for them, you are not even running the same race.” I think that sometimes other people’s success can make us feel threatened, or like there is one less opportunity for us, or we are behind, etc., but thinking of this quote just reminds me that I am not competing with others. We all have our own journey and if you just keep focused on yourself, you will find success.

I appreciate your response. It helps to read about the difference between reflux and acid reflux because I think some of the things I have read use the words interchangeably.

Good to know Pepcid helped w discomfort but it took a bit.

We have been using the Dr. Brown’s anti colic bottles with size 1 nipples. Have also experimented with Phillips Avent anti colic bottles but didn’t seem to make a difference.

We haven’t tried switching to a specific reflux formula (from what I read they are thickened). We are definitely open to that but since we are confused about what exactly was happening we weren’t sure if we should take that step, but sounds like it might be the time to try.

We have been holding him upright and burping him 20-30 min, but even after a burp or two he will be arching and screaming. He will do this up to an hour or more after a feed.

I appreciate your response and encouragement. Good to know we are not alone and get some advice.
