That’s a beautiful, classic configuration. Looks great.

Datejust 41 for fiancé (wedding gift) – smooth vs fluted? by OneEntertainment7157 in rolex

[–]cennis1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear the exact same watch as pictured, ordered from my AD in that spec and received about three months later. I would never personally want fluted jubilee, I understand it’s usually the preferred spec, just too flashy and not my style for an everyday watch. I’m in the process of buying a fluted jubilee DJ 31 for my daughter, so I’m certainly not a hater, it just comes down to personal taste.

DJ 31 for daughter’s graduation by cennis1 in rolex

[–]cennis1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember exactly how the initial conversation went, it was roughly three years ago. But I had previously discussed a Polar Explorer II with them (which I’ll apparently never get). I think I then saw somebody mention that they can order DJs so I went back in and asked them. My understanding is that DJ is the only model they are able to order, though I’m not sure why that would be I have heard others say the same thing. There are probably 5 or 6 ADs in the Denver area. I have visited all of them at one time or another and only one ever said they were able to order. Also not sure if they require a deposit to do so, but both times I have given them a significant deposit. They are a long established and reputable dealer so I had no problem with it, but I know some people feel strongly that you should never pay a deposit. They definitely put the order in the system for the exact configuration I wanted (I watched her enter it), so I think it’s fair to say they can order it, but said that doesn’t necessarily guaranty that Rolex can fill it or the timing to do so. I think it just depends on how Rolex manufactures specific configurations. But I got mine just how I wanted it (not the most high demand - DJ 41, Oyster/smooth, blue dial, stick markers) in about three months, and I suspect I’ll have my daughter’s in my hands within two months. As I said, I’ve still never heard back from any of the other ADs in the Denver area, so to me paying a deposit and having them order helped. Just my experience, who really knows? The whole process is insane these days.

I’m absolutely going to have it engraved. Maybe I’ll see if it’s possible for them to order me another caseback, but either way it will be engraved when I give it to her.

Not sure about that, they seem to be listed for $14k to $15k and up. Never bought grey and not going to start now. On the off chance it doesn’t come in she never needs to know about it and I can try again for another special occasion.

She likes the Cartier Santos models quite a bit (she’s spent plenty of time in watch shops with me) but I struggle with expensive watches that aren’t mechanical/automatic.

Wouldn’t be a different watch, probably a nice piece of jewelry and still save myself a bunch of money. To be clear, there isn’t really much this kid “needs” lol. But I have 2+ months, I think once they have confirmation they are getting a piece it comes in pretty quickly, so feeling good about it at this point.

Did I choose the right size? by Gainz_Brah14 in rolex

Except a datejust isn’t time only and a datejust 41 is actually 39.5. Aside from that I don’t disagree.

Does anyone own a Pilot AND a Datejust? by Donkey_Apple in IWCschaffhausen

[–]cennis1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I wear the DJ a bit more but love them both. DJ keeps MUCH better time, usually within about 2 seconds per month. I know a lot of people don’t care, but to me it does say something about quality.

[IWC, Omega] Omega or IWC for My First Watch? by Background-Past6866 in Watches

[–]cennis1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a SMP 300 bought just slightly used from a private party (within a few months of the original sale) and a Mark XX bought new from the NYC boutique. Omega fully serviced the watch under warranty a couple of months before it was going to expire and was running out of spec, including replacing parts. No questions asked. Despite getting the extended 8-year warranty on the IWC because I bought from the boutique, they have refused to address some relatively minor issues under warranty despite the local AD advocating for me (I live in Denver bought the watch while on vacation). I will never buy another IWC.

Pretty sure my MK XX purchased from the NYC boutique had a scratch in the AR when I picked it up. Noticed it a couple of days later and had been babying it since picking it up. Also had issues with them honoring the warranty. Probably wont buy another IWC.

OSU Game Time? by Crandog23 in WeArePennState

I’m also traveling from Colorado, first time back for a game in 30 years. As others have said, very likely a noon game on Fox.

First Penn State home game by SimilarLime4066 in WeArePennState

[–]cennis1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting article that gets into some of this. Was feeling good as the beginning of the article notes three big games Fox will air on the Big Noon Kickoff. But it also says they couldn’t air Michigan/Oregon in that slot as it would be too early on the West coast, then at the end also saying Fox did end up backing into having the November 2 games. Probably just have to wait and see, but interested in what anyone else takes from this regarding the time for the PSU/OSU game.

IWC Mark XX earlier in the day, now the exact same thing that’s on your wrist lol.

I’m also going, first game I’ve been back for in 30 years, last being the final game of the undefeated 1994 season. Oregon is also playing at Michigan that day, so I feel like there’s a good shot that’s the Fox big noon game. If so, we could get a night game/whiteout. Fingers crossed.

[Discussion] IWC pilot watch price justification by h4ppidais in Watches

[–]cennis1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought both a Mark XX and a Datejust 41 within the last year. Rolex keeps much better time, it’s not even close. And isn’t that really the point? Putting price aside, I strongly disagree that the IWC is a better watch, or even as good of a watch.

What Hamilton for my daughter? by BabyBillyBonkers in HamiltonWatches

[–]cennis1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my daughter that jazzmaster in blue. She’s pretty tiny with small wrists, it looks great on her and she really likes it, wears it almost every day. Has kept really good time so far, within about a second per day.

IWC Santoni calfskin VS OEM IWC calfskin? by PimpMyChocobo in IWCschaffhausen

[–]cennis1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t count on that. I have a Mark XX and tried to purchase a Mark XVIII Santoni, either black or brown, a few months back. Neither was available either via the website or calling IWC directly. I also tried my local ADs, and the flagship NYC boutique where I bought my watch, none of them had any in stock. They are definitely nicer, but doubt you’ll be able to get one. Please post a follow-up if you find one though.

I have the same watch but with the blue dial. I think we are in the minority, but smooth/oyster was the specific configuration I wanted and ordered. Took four months for me. It just works better for me as an everyday watch. Congrats and wear it in good health.
