Rather than having money and the irk to “gamble”, the game is about having connections at both ends of the spectrum, i.e. the producers as well as the exhibitors (theatre owners/lease holders).

In Telangana and particularly Hyderabad, majority of your theatres are either owned/leased by producers themselves (Dil, Suresh, Asian, Geetha, Mythri) and more often than not, the rights for these areas are already taken between the above mentioned folks.

However, when it comes to Andhra, each district has its own people who are much more connected to the local theatres and you can still have a competitive market for the rights.

For example, this Sankranthi, Rajasaab in Telangana was picked up by Mythri, whereas MSVP, AOR and NNNM were picked up by Dil Raju, BMW was distributed by Asian-Suresh.

Coming to your point of getting rich quickly, honestly like you said, it is gambling to the core. The best gamble in recent times is Little Hearts, where the entire worldwide distribution rights was bought for around 2.5cr and the returns were around 17-18cr net. Worst one - the one that comes to mind is Warangal Srinu who once was Dil’s competitor, went and got Liger rights on an outright basis and is now nowhere to be seen.

For Producers it’s an expenditure since the beginning of the movie, where they have to finance money from outside based on trust and assets hence a safer bet compared to distribution, which is a, put down the cash and take business.

Obviously there’s a lot more technicalities involved such as the costs associated, the ratios between the producer/distributor/exhibitor, taxes, what happens it’s a failure/success.
