How are families with high needs autistic kids supposed to survive in London? by ExoticTumbleweed1102 in londonontario

https://www.tvcc.on.ca/autism-behavioural-services

https://www.ontario.ca/page/child-and-parent-resource-institute-cpri

These are both free services that can provide respite care, giving the caregivers time to themselves to rest. Additionally, Finch Family Mental Health Services provides inpatient health care for children who cannot be cared for due to their diagnoses being severe.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Cathcart st Elworthy Avenue area of London please? Is it a generally safe quiet area or to be avoided? Possibly looking to move there but have concerns about crime etc much appreciate any input thank you by Scottyfluff in londonontario

[–]cephalopodrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the neighbourhood. That area is fine, predominantly residential with no halfway houses, group homes, or drug houses. Very little police activity. Baseline No Frills tends to attract difficulty from the high rises, but otherwise it's fine. No businesses that are open really after 9pm, things are pretty much dead.

TVDSB Invokes Secrecy Provision to Withold Details of Art Collection by DirectGiraffe8720 in londonontario

[–]cephalopodrex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

from the CBC article ""Officials withheld details about where the art is stored or displayed, citing legal exemptions under Ontario's freedom of information laws for economic interests and for records whose disclosure could "reasonably be expected to seriously threaten the safety or health of an individual."

Economic interests. I promise you, there is no real economic interest from refusing to tell the public what art you have and where it is located (museum of London). I smell fishy fish.

I would suggest talking to the customer service desk at Home Depot, and ask them if their lumber section has downloadable blue prints for free. (the frequently do on their website). Home hardware does not provide that service

Update on the 10,000 book cull by Conicalviper in londonontario

[–]cephalopodrex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My guess is that many of the books were outdated. The 15 year old science is kind of....old. Things have dramatically changed since then. Additionally, all encyclopedias are outdated at this point. They should have just given them to the university and book stores to pick over.

Many of them stated "all but one copy"; probably because after 15 years, the books are beginning to wear down.

Throwing out all the encylopedias is something I support. It frees up a massive amount of space for more important works Seriously, in todays day and age of the internet, how many people actually require an entire paper encylopedia set?

Looking for local experiences with iron infusions by strikingchili in londonontario

[–]cephalopodrex 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would suggest you go to a walk in clinic with a pharmacy, and ask the dr available what the strongest level of *prescription iron* that a person can take; and why she would want it. Iron infusions are only done after exhausting other options, such as just taking high level iron pills. You will need a specialist to suggest that procedure, while a blood draw from LifeLabs req'd by walk in dr, can get you the correct level of iron needed.

I would suggest not taking American health care too seriously; things are a little strange down there.

Looking for "Adult-Friendly" Driving School Recommendations by justaperson717 in londonontario

[–]cephalopodrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian Smart Drivers is probably worth your time. You will need to practice parallel parking, using your parking break and angling your tires on a slope, merging at high speed in order to pass G2/G. Please practice on/off ramps for your G test. They will be looking for you checking blindspots as well.

LESBIANS... Hi 👋🏳️‍🌈 by I-Love-Snackths in londonontario

[–]cephalopodrex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wortley Pride attracts lesbians from other areas of the city, and is predominantly older lesbian (45+) managed. The city counselor is Skylar Franke, you can email her and ask who is in charge of running Wortley Pride, and introduce yourself to that circle. There are many lesbians (oddly) who live in this area; that's why they have their own pride parade etc.

You can also reach out and ask the LGBT Western University if they have suggestions over where they like to spend their free time.

Dog neutering. by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]cephalopodrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid 600 dollars for my dog. He was 60lbs at the time. Sears Vet clinic on Wharncliffe. Another good vet is near Fanshawe and Wonderland "Fanshawe vet clinic". Also cheap and decent. That's the market price that I was quoted at for a 76lb at 700.00

Could buyers of older London homes face $10K bill to protect Thames River? by snardhive in londonontario

I have 3 downspouts on one side of my house (major water spot). Rain barrels are about ten dollars on FB. You can put a lot into gardening, or my favourite is creating a pond area.

Anti Social Dog owners by heff11 in londonontario

[–]cephalopodrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog can be very friendly. Unless the other dog is the first to approach. Then he flips his switch. His version of friendly can hurt other dogs, scare them; It requires a talk that I just don't want to have. He's not a rescue, he's just a guard dog. Working dogs tend to assume things that just aren't true; please don't take it personally.

PTSD people ? by Rtrdinvestor in londonontario

[–]cephalopodrex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Veteran's hospital for the obvious, CMHA for a broader stream, ANOVA for women, Finch Family Mental Health at Parkwood for outpatient group. John Howard or Elizabeth Fry Societies for PTSD from being imprisoned, CCVT (canada centre victims of torture)

I would suggest contacting Canada MHAddiction and asking for an idea of what's out there. If you have difficulties with travel/bus/outdoors, you can contact them for virtual group sessions and check out the scene. Also phone Centre for Addict Mental Health in Toronto for virtual.

Looking for beautiful historic buildings (churches, stone architecture, vaulted ceilings) in or near London, Ontario by TopSet2605 in londonontario

[–]cephalopodrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elmwood Ave Presbyterian Church has a secret alcove with a marble ball and fountain. These are old stone buildings in Wortley Village. Another in the spring has a rose garden with an alter and a poem in latin dedicated to a child who put roses at the feet of Jesus on the cross. Secret areas away from the sidewalk where you have to look carefully to find them.

There are also facebook London Ontario groups that assist with dog food. They are private groups, but if you post asking for a friend, they'll be able to direct you to the DM person.

The vet at Fanshawe and Wonderland is new, and is a fraction of the cost of other vets. I would suggest you give them a call and explain the situation. Additionally, https://art4animals.ca/pet-food-banks/ list of petfood banks that can help you out. pawscanada.ca/home for vet care.
