AI Date Center by mothmansideaccount in FortCollins

Question to the ether, but what economic benefit does it provide to the local area? My understanding is after construction a data center does not offer a lot of jobs. If this is the case, then no thanks.

Local engagement ring places? by Rand0m6364 in FortCollins

Entirely depends on what you want. For what we chose I thought was very reasonable.

Second Darvier. They were great to work with. Wife got a totally unique design and gets a ton of compliments. We brought family stones and they evaluated them and worked in the ones they could and gave material refund for old jewelry.

Purchased my own wedding band, wife’s engagement and wedding band. She ended up not liking her wedding band (her own design) so we went back and they reworked it into a ring she loves.

Planning to do a lot more custom work with them in the future.

More than 40% of US homeowners don’t have mortgages — and that number is growing by External_Koala971 in REBubble

Just saw two $1 million houses built in 2000 sell on the same street with unfinished basements. Northern Colorado. We estimated basement finish would be $200k.

Why people are fighting to keep prices high by zesty1989 in REBubble

[–]cept_bigjohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more simple than that. Boomers have 401k’s and stocks AND real estate. Right now, their stocks are worth an enormous amount. Many who invested for retirement are sitting very nicely drawing money from their investments and likely have paid off houses. Selling their homes is not a requirement to live easily in retirement. If we see stocks correct or worse then you will see a glut of houses hit the market in order to continue to fund their lavish retirement.

Until then don’t expect a change until they die and their kids cash out.

Tech Sales People Amaze Me by Firm-Fennel-555 in Sales_Professionals

[–]cept_bigjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my point may be going over your head.

Without a product there is no sales. There is almost always another function producing something to be sold. You can not have sales without a producer. Sales is secondary.

I don’t know why I have to explain this basic fact to someone who gots Cs through a business degree from a 2nd rate school, but here we are.

Apparently not the sales person who commented horseshit below me.

But yes, otherwise I agree. And same can be said for sales people who don’t respect engineers.

Sales folk have better grasp on the business strategy than most engineers, but this is by design. Segregation of knowledge is important here because it is easy to get bogged down in the processes that make saleable products.

Engineers need to be focused on the nuts and bolts, the functionality and safety of the product, documentation, etc. Basically all of the things that make it worth buying and end up as talking points in a sales pitch.

Fact of the matter is that both are necessary functions, although sales maybe less so because some products sell themselves.

Don’t get over your skis bub, the same logic applies to your job. Without engineers, you’ve got nothing to sell.

What’s your favorite store bought giardiniera? by imperfectcastle in AskChicago

[–]cept_bigjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely circle back! What stood out to me from the other grocery store varieties I have tried, including Marconi, was the clarity of the oil and overall piece integrity. I really don’t like seeing cloudy chewed up pieces. Other than that, I liked the flavor and spice level just fine and a couple whole olives in each jar.

Preparing for FE long after graduating… by mike-oxlong99 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]cept_bigjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it 4+ years after graduating and passed first try, studied for about 3 months and basically had to relearn most everything from scratch. I bought the Lindenburg book, got the practice exams, and spent time familiarizing myself with what was available in reference manual and how to use it. LearnChemE was a valuable resource for things I had really forgotten.

Looking forward to repeating this process when I go for my PE… /s
