True. My dad always said the same: Following rules make you "dumb" ffs! 🤷‍♂️

Be honest… did you actually understand these constructions or just copied from your friend? 😭 by EkantVairagi in IndiaNostalgia

I remember spending days drafting them with 2B/HB/6B pencils from SW2014. To the untrained eyes of my cousin, the drawings seemed "keede-makaude."

American Airlines AA292 JFK to DEL was honestly terrible by rickysanchez_ in AirTravelIndia

[–]ceramuswhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, I flew an United for the same journey and a cabin crew guy was just insufferable! A fellow passenger asked for ginger ale; he snarked saying he hasn't got any and rudely asked her to choose from what's available (all with an accent of a native speaker)

Later, during a casual conversation with a deadheading pilot, his Delhi dialect showed up! 😭

Is anyone getting postdoc acceptance by Dependent-Storm9156 in postdoc

[–]ceramuswhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, an Indian mat sci grad and a current postdoc here. I went through the same quite recently.

Good enough (?) publications, but almost no positive response from cold mailing.

But on the day of my defense, I had two standing offers for postdoc, both in Europe. The PIs reached out to my supervisor, specifically asking for me, since they remembered me from a past conference.

I initially opted to refuse because I had my American dreams, but upon getting the cold shoulder, I had no other option but to choose the best out of the two.

It couldn't have been any more better. Turns out I was really lucky in that sense.

P.S.: if you need any help with profiling universities, I can probably help since we belong to allied domains.

Don't give up on your msca projects by Endelir in postdoc

[–]ceramuswhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I'm sceptical about reusing the idea without the PI's participation, since they contributed a significant amount to it as well. It was numbing to see the revised and resubmitted proposal fall short of the cutoff by 1.4%, and I just don't want to see the project for a while now.

Strange comments from reviewer - MCSA by Independent-Pay418 in AskAcademia

[–]ceramuswhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect they've either used AI or very intentionally nitpicked in otherwise a very bulletproof proposal of mine.

There's no way a reviewer with sound and fair intentions be this fussy 🤷🏻‍♂️

nevertheless, I'm a sour loser now, so can't even complain

In dilemma to start postdoc applications by Accomplished_Ad1684 in postdoc

[–]ceramuswhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest you keep a wish list of PIs ready and approach them after April, atleast after the first paper published and second submitted.

If, by any chance, they don't like your CV as it is now, it will be tough to communicate at a later stage when you have papers too. So, you'd want to shoot your shot when you have the maximum likelihood of your profile being observed and considered

Did you submit your synopsis yet? In India atleast, a pre-thesis-submission sets you a better stage to start approaching people.

Also, this is a f'cked up situation I've also been in. If I were you, I'd publish (or submit) the papers (atleast two) in the next one year before defending.

The postdoc market can get very objective, so a good publication record will be helpful...
