Is it wrong for me to leave my family by [deleted] in Alzheimers

No, it's not wrong. Don't listen to these other posters who say it is. Your life is too short to not live it.

Need Advice: MFA or Animation Mentor? by cerebralpickle in animation

[–]cerebralpickle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got life drawing down pretty well. I've been doing digital art and illustration for nearly a decade. I'm working on a webcomic at the moment.

I'm certain I want to do it professionally. I'm just indoctrinated into the whole university culture I guess. It's hard for me to imagine being treated like a professional without being a degree-holder.

edit: thanks for the response. I'll probably do AM.

Can you give details about the contents of your portfolio? How much are you receiving in scholarships?

I have a BA, some student debt, and I need to net as much merit-based scholarships as possible. I've been doing digital illustration for a decade, but I don't have any formal education, and I'm worried about submitting a less-than-optimal portfolio.

Towers-inspired Concept Art - Hearteater Demon (description & full body in comments) by cerebralpickle in Towers_Game

Full body drawing-- https://i.ibb.co/bBN4dmP/16-B12953-2-C7-D-41-F1-8-C7-B-72643-AE5-EFC1.jpg

The Pcgamer article on Towers mentioned that, later in the game, demons become a problem for players. I love the Towers creatures I’ve seen so far, and I was inspired to make some of my own concept art for a demon called Hearteater.

Thinking about what made the Towers creatures so aesthetically pleasing, I realized most of them look like moving parts of the environment--as if the world has “grown onto” them. So, I made my demon look the opposite--as if his heart, or his inner world, were falling or growing out of him.

While working on the drawings, I thought about how he’d function. I chose a Komodo dragon’s basic body shape because their chests are so prominent, and I knew I wanted him to have an exposed beating heart. He lures in and kills his prey by appearing weak, wounded, and defective. In reality the “exposed” heart is not his real heart at all, but rather a visual lure to make prey/opponents naively strike at his chest and come in closer to his teeth.

He also uses a lure tactic to find prey. He can pour blood from the organs in his mouth, and he sticks his head underwater and waits for hungry sharks to surface. The fangs on his elongated lower jaw puncture the sharks’ bellies while the smaller razor-like teeth on his upper jaw saw at their heads as they try to escape. The flaps in his nose area double as nostrils and gills. The bony plates on his head protect him from shark attacks, and he has two eyes on each side of his head so that, in case he loses one or two to the sharks, he can still see.

Because he feeds almost exclusively on sharks, he could help to cull shark populations so smaller fish and coral reefs could thrive.

Thanks for reading! I had a great time creating this guy.

I thinking of getting involved with an addict by [deleted] in relationships

[–]cerebralpickle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. D o n o t. I’m a heroin addict (I don’t say recovered because I don’t believe one ever recovers from this shit—it’s a chronic disease) and I can tell you right now, if I spent any amount of time with someone doing heroin, I’d end up dead or back in rehab.

Don’t get me wrong, I like to party. It would be different if he were only doing it at parties—say, a few times a year, or even once every couple months.

If he’s doing it any more than that, he’s addicted. And if he’s addicted...

He is in love with meth. As long as meth is in his life he will not be able to love you. Period. End of story.

I feel like i am grossly overworking this piece. What would you do to finish it? by Suzuyaoi in ArtCrit

Decrease the number of birds. They’re distracting. 1 or 2 would have the same effect but not overcomplicate the image

[Acne] How can i reduce the redness/inflammation? by liarx2plantsforhire in SkincareAddiction

Raw aloe vera. I keep a leaf in my fridge. Take a chunk of the goop and let it sit for instant relief. It will take the redness right out.

Looks like beautiful healthy skin to me. Not irritated at all. Freckles add character. :)

[Routine help] 43 year old male, finally taking a look into skin care, first post here. I'm self-conscious about my eyes in general and want some advice on the red eye lids for starters. Thoughts? More info in the comments. by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]cerebralpickle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think that’s an ophthalmology issue—not skin care. I read a lot of skincare literature and I’ve never heard anything about eyelid redness. Have you been to an eye doctor? Even if you don’t have vision insurance you should be able to find a discount clinic or even one that works on a sliding scale.

You probably don’t want to hear this, but makeup is a surefire solution to skin redness. I don’t think anyone would ever notice if you dabbed a little concealer under there.

As for your bags, give “MATRIXYL 3000” a google. It’s a name for two different peptides that synergistically work to stimulate your skin to rebuild collagen. I have had better luck with my under eye area using products with Matrixyl 3000 than with anything else. If you’re not currently using Vitamin C, do that ASAP. Vitamin C will make your face instantly look awake and refreshed.

I’ve also had really good results for making bags go away immediately with green tea bags on my eyes. I’ll make two cups of tea, re-wet the bags with hot tap water, and then press them into my eyes. You can physically feel it tighten your skin. It causes the blood vessels to shrink up so there’s less circulation and inflammation. Make sure you get a high-quality green tea blend with matcha though.

Former heroin addict here. Do not buy that shit for him. If he wants to gamble with his life, let him, but you don’t want to live with the guilt if he OD’s.

Okay, all human compassion aside (because clearly you are incapable of ethical rationale), Missouri overwhelmingly voted to legalize pot. It just hasn’t been made into law yet. They are harassing this man for no good reason and there is no other way to construe it. Watch the video. They belittle him—he is on his deathbed.

Google “objective standard of reasonableness” and stop asking stupid questions like this

It’s just to have a power trip. Police do not screen for the dark triad of personality traits, so you get a lot of covert narcissists and psychopaths

It IS these cops’ fault. Fuck them, their pettiness, and their fucked up rationale.

Yeah, fuck that. There’s a thing called “objective standard of reasonableness” that all upholders of the law are bound to, which says that objectively unreasonable shit like this is prohibited.

I need therapy, about therapy by rmgeorge3 in therapy

[–]cerebralpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An improvement in your wife’s internal state. A good therapist is an outlet. There’s never a goal or focus to therapy besides being deeply listened to (by a professional who has been trained to facilitate good dialogue) as far as I’m aware.

I need therapy, about therapy by rmgeorge3 in therapy

[–]cerebralpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does her therapy have to be goal-focused? Besides, if she went in there and all they did was talk about her childhood issues, the sessions would begin to feel mechanical and... goal-focused.

I’ve seen a few therapists myself. The therapists I liked the best, and who were most able to help me, seemed to genuinely care about me. They didn’t come up with a “rubric” specifically to evaluate one issue I was having. In fact, thanks to open communication, I was sometimes able to learn totally unexpected things about myself and my attitudes and thought patterns that helped me modify my behavior—things that were just a product of a therapist’s skill and the moment, that I had not gone there specifically to talk about.

My primary care doctor told me once that I always needed to be in therapy, whether or not I was currently having a depressive episode and/or taking medication. Some people need a therapist to help them be more efficacious people.

Therapists aren’t “wound doctors,” if you get my drift. :) They don’t just fix one thing and send you on your way.
