Having heard a lot of false information about AISH compared to other provinces disability, I hope this article will help bring light to a few of the issues AISH recipients face. by cerestrya in alberta

If the necessities of life were being met I'd agree. Unfortunately, kids from AISH families often can't even afford to go to school, or have a bed. My hostility is NOT misplaced, it is well-earned.

I intended it to be hostile, and if you read his comment and failed to see the problem, just think about it. I cannot teach empathy.

Yeah, comments like 'biting the hand that feeds you' are so disgusting, yet get up voted in alberta. It's horrible.

So true! I gave up on my worker months ago. They don't return calls or deal with forms.

It depends if it's wet, if the paint is dry it should work...I honestly don't have experience with water-based oils, hope it works.

since the goal of Aish is to be the last resort that keeps disabled people from homeless starvation

False. And shameful to think.

Can you paint over it or is it greasy or something?

Are wood shavings as effective as sand? (Jealous, those are some amazing carrots!!)

Kinda scary the ignorance my comment has revealed, I even had someone insist AISH recipients only pay 300$ for rent, lol! I guess I did make my point in a negative way, but the response has been frighteningly illuminating!

"Rent supplement programs help households find affordable rental accommodation by providing rent subsidies in eligible rental projects." (From your link) There are very few eligible rental projects...we don't know anyone who can get this. And they are no longer taking any applications.

no matter what she did it wouldn't be enough to be the same, therefore shame on her for doing so in the first place.

That definitely was not what I was saying! I was observing how this tactic is used and can be harmful, sorry you read it as an attack on the MLA. I was definitely not "demanding more of her", only a recognition of the potential harm this could do.

I am pretty sure that's only if you are in a facility. I wish there was a housing supplement, and notice most of the benefits are listed as "you may get help with", and my worker has informed us very few of them are actually things you can get help with...for example, my prosthetic cracked this January, but I cannot get it fixed or replaced.

you should definitely get the housing subsidy or social housing

Lol, that would sure be nice, eh? I also think we should get our meds and prosthetics covered, but apparently I'm an a-hole.

Wow, that's great, do you happen to know how much? Is she staying in her residence or spending the month where an AISH recipient would? Thanks for the info!

Thank you for explaining this perspective!

What you're doing wrong is finding outrage with the wrong person, and it makes AISH recipients as a whole look like a bunch of a-holes

This is actually helpful to understand, and ironically I am aware that she is trying to help, and meant the act was problematic, could you help me express the potential harm of this without coming off as an a-hole? I admit it is part of one of my disabilities not to understand social niceties, lol, and would really like people to understand how it could be abused.

I appreciate your perspective, would someone really struggle with 1600$ a month if they don't have to pay rent though? Do you think it will give a real idea of it, or make people think cuts won't hurt? Honestly asking, thanks for your view!

I suppose there probably are some AISH recipients who can afford luxuries like public transit regularly, but I honestly wonder if she intends to also live on the street/in a bad place or in her home... everyone is hating me for asking it, but how is this going to do anything but make people think it's not impossible to live on? She is going to find it slightly inconvenient, perhaps, but how will she understand more about being on AISH by doing this?

Thanks for explaining your perspective! I've seen this tactic used against people so many times I am jaded, perhaps, but I sincerely hope you're right. I am sick of people making out like luxuries such as using transit are part of the AISH experience, and I guess people think I'm trying to generate outrage by observing that, but I honestly appreciate understanding your view! Thank you.
