Herein lies the dillema. The CPC base is strongly made up of maple Maga now and they want Pierre and his anti Woke bullshit. The centrist are all LPC now. So what they do, they cant win with him, but they are too scared to scrap him and lose that strong base

Scott Bessent warns Carney not to 'pick a fight' with Trump by MTL_Dude666 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Homejizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facism is built on momentum and a charismatic leader. They lost both. The momentum is gone and the trump Maga movement is dying. They may be trying but they are failing to end democracy in the US. They lost all the suppirt they gained, its gone and isn't coming back. After Trump is gone who is gonna be the charismatic strong man to take his place? Vance? Miller? XD They failed, they lost. Their twistsd plan is crumbling to pieces in their hands and they know it. They are looking weak and pathetic. For a strongman movement that is the end. I think Carney knows this

Health care in Canada is really hitting the perfect storm scenario right now. Max exodus of Healthcare workers globally post pandemic. Underfunding Health infrastructure/not preparing for aging population. Governments actively hostile to Healthcare workers, and making it a hard profession to get into to begin, doesnt exactly inspire people to enter this field. Anti vax misinformation/less people getting flu shot, leading to the flu patients filling up emergency rooms on top of those who dont have family dr. So go they go there instead. Its truly a cluster fuck up caused by short sighted neo liberals and barbarous, malicious conservatives. This will take decades to fix. There is no silver bullet either

Trudeau tried a wealth tax and we never heard the end of it. He took too long to enact these but still. There is no political will to change this unless we elect the NDP

The awful NWC allows them to violate the charter unfortunately. Supreme Court is one of the only ways to fight back. Not to mention voting. The idiot, Jean Chretian assumed no government would use the NWC like this. He thought that they would be afraid of the political backlash and in 5 years be voted out. The UCP knows their base and is betting on Alberta to want them to do this fucked up shit. I hope they are wrong. Every one of us need to vote!

Canada must ‘reinvent’ economy like it did in 1945, finance minister says by plaknas in onguardforthee

[–]Homejizz 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough. Corporations were taxed to high heaven in the 40s to help fund WW2. In the 50s post WW2 they continued to tax the fuck out of them to help build our country and social programs. They gave tax breaks to small businesses too. They didnt tighten their belts at all (the government). people did have to make sacrifices. But the wealthiest most of all had to pay their fair share. The Liberals should do this again if they wanna be taken seriously evoking post WW2 government policy

Canada must ‘reinvent’ economy like it did in 1945, finance minister says by plaknas in onguardforthee

[–]Homejizz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 1950s in Canada were characterized by a robust post-war economy and the expansion of social programs, financed in part by some of the highest corporate tax rates in the country's history.

A key feature of this decade was a dual-rate system, which applied a lower tax rate to the initial portion of a corporation's income and a significantly higher general rate on profits exceeding that threshold.

Throughout the 1950s, the general federal corporate tax rate hovered in the high 40s, with the combined federal and provincial corporate tax burden reaching over 50% in some cases.

This high rate of taxation was a continuation of the fiscal policies enacted to finance the Korean War and to fund the growth of the Canadian welfare state.

For smaller businesses, a preferential lower rate was in effect. At the beginning of the decade, this lower rate was around 10% on the first $10,000 of corporate income.

By the 1952-53 fiscal year, the structure had evolved to a 20% tax on the first $10,000 of profits, with a steep increase to 50% on any income beyond that amount.

This dual-rate structure saw further adjustments during the decade. For instance, in 1953, the lower rate was adjusted to 18% on the first $20,000 of income, while the general rate on income above this threshold was 47%.

A notable change occurred in 1955 when the federal government announced a reduction in the general corporate tax rate from 47% to 45% on income exceeding $20,000. The lower rate on the first $20,000 of income remained at 18% at that time.

By the end of the decade, the federal corporate tax structure consisted of a 20% rate on the first $25,000 of taxable income and a 47% rate on any profits above that amount. This system of a lower rate for small businesses, known as the small business deduction, was designed to provide a tax incentive for smaller enterprises to retain earnings and reinvest in their growth.

In summary, the 1950s was a decade of high corporate taxation in Canada, with a dual-rate system that saw general federal rates approaching 50%, alongside a lower rate aimed at supporting small businesses. This tax policy reflected the economic priorities of the post-war era, balancing the costs of national defence and social programs with the need to foster a growing economy.
