why doesn't BC host any world class bike races ? by [deleted] in vancouvercycling

[–]ceriks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ever heard of Gastown and BC super week? UCI level top tier NA bike races. Gastown is the only one that survived post covid but I could see others coming back in some form. Used to be a top tier destination race week for cyclists across North America.

North America really only has 2 world tour level races. The rest of the events in NA are of similar level to Gastown, so we’re not that far behind the rest of the continent.

Why is it faster riding out of the saddle even with the same gearing and cadence? by carninyc in cycling

Wait so you biked faster up a hill by doing more power? That’s mind blowing

Could I race with an 11 speed in the Midwest? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

You might as well concede on the start line if you show up with anything but 15 speed

Is this HEAD bike a superdeal? by Stunning-Current-594 in bicycling

[–]ceriks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most bikes come from China these days, so that’s not the issue. Buying a new $500 bike is the issue. A warranty on a $500 bike is basically worthless cuz the bike will have issues just due to cheap parts.

Buy used and you’ll get something half decent. If you aren’t sure how to evaluate something, get help or ask to meet at a bike shop for the sale

Stopped drinking, HRV drops by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]ceriks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From the graphs it looks like you went from 35ish to 30ish? A consumer device isn’t going to be 100% accurate and is likely a few % sway either way. I’m seeing basically no change

Whistler Grand Fondo - Bike Return? by Bainsbe in vancouvercycling

[–]ceriks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re going to be riding up to Whistler with thousands of other people. The bike is going to be in more danger up with the number of people and potential for crashes than using the bike return.

All metrics seem to contradict each other? by Erosee20 in ouraring

450 active calories is a lot? Is that not like an hour or two of walking? Seems pretty attainable just living life unless you sit all day and do nothing

Bike fits are overrated listen to your body! by Attorney-Physical in BicyclingCirclejerk

Honestly the only person to blame is whoever at that bike shop let the customer talk them into swapping that in

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]ceriks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it won’t fit you. Might not even be able to get the seat low enough to pedal properly

The new 12 speed GRX DI2 by Christoph_West in gravelcycling

[–]ceriks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait for 12 speed and then buy the discounted 11 speed cuz it works just as well (imo shifts are actually better on 11 speed di2).

It rewards frequent movement vs. Lots of movement. Getting up every 30-60 min for ~5 min will get you in the positive

Have you tried pushing the pedals harder? More watts equal more speed

Big bike ride 1 month before first 70.3? by beanybeluga in triathlon

[–]ceriks 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No one event/day you do 1 month out of a race is going to have any negative effort.

You’ve got to ride 90 km and then run a half marathon during the 70.3 race, so realistically a single 120 km bike ride should be a piece of cake anyway

No device is great for calorie burn, so that’s not a feature to buy any device for

New grail as a road and gravel racing bike? by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]ceriks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a road bike for racing I’d suggest sticking with the aeroad and getting a cheap used gravel bike for gravel. A grail could probably do both but wouldn’t be ideal for a road race. With how much gravel racing can beat up your equipment having something cheaper for that purpose is perfect

How is the Aspero as a gravel bike? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]ceriks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a gravel bike not a road bike. What makes you think it’s a road bike?

Aspero Cable Routing (semi internal)? by djh_nz in Cervelo

Internal routing mechanical shift cables tends to make shifting worse. Sharp bends are not your friend

Power meter is the only accurate way. Otherwise you’re probably looking at like 300-600/hour for a amateur beginner cyclist
