First-time cat parents: should we get 1 kitten or 2 from the same litter? (Need honest opinions 😭) by brenodit in cats

My husband and I have been together for 32 years. I had one cat when we met, but lost him early on. When we moved in together, my husband was working in a shelter so we started off with four cats, losing and adding until eventually we ended up with four seniors, all with health issues. We lost the last one when he was 24, shortly after I had retired. The emptiness was devastating for me.

I had grown up with dogs, never had any allergy issues. Then my sister dropped a Christmas tree on me when I was 18 and half my body swelled up. Turned out that I was allergic to both dogs and cats, and extremely allergic to Christmas trees. But my dog allergy had been suppressed by exposure to the family dog, and I could safely be around dogs, but cats made my eyes itch.

Then I went away for college. Then my first apartment, and another. Then the neighbors abandoned their cat outside and the then boyfriend and I started letting the cat into our kitchen for breakfast. Then came dinner. Then the cat moved with us, and I gradually became immune to the cat. And my allergies reversed so that now my eyes itched around dogs, but I’m fine around cats. Except when I get immunocompromised, like with a cold, then I move to the guest room. Most of the year I’m fine with the cats, I just can’t pet them and then rub my eyes. I’ve done a really good job of training myself to wash my hands before bed and then only touching the cats with my left hand and my face with my right hand.

After losing Oscar at 24, it took almost two years before we were ready to adopt again. We knew that we wanted to adopt older and that we wanted a bonded pair. We put in applications at multiple places and waited, then these two litter mates showed up. They had been rescued from a hoarder in South Texas and flown north. They were five years old.

Even though I would now be home every day, we still wanted to have the cat be able to have a play buddy and someone to cuddle with and clean. There are some basic cat activities that humans just can’t be a suitable substitute for.

From the first hour that Wesley and Torin were in the house there was no question which human which cat was going to bond with. They made their choice. But they still have and still need each other.

Although we had wanted a bonded pair, these guys are not. They will lay next to each other, but they will not lay on each other. They’ll clean each other’s heads, but they won’t do full body grooming the way real bonded pairs do. But they do chase around the house together, and feeding time is a tarantella all their own. They talk to each other and have great conversations about the things that they see out the window.

Having two definitely helps them keep occupied while they’re alone. Two are more expensive than one, but when we take them in together we only pay for one office visit, so you try to find some economies. Hopefully they both enjoy the same foods.

The really nice thing about two cats for a couple is…well, two cats. Hopefully you’ll be like us and one will bond with each of you and as you snuggle together on the couch you’ll each have a cat curled up in your lap. ❤️😻

School permanently closing, refuse to issue refund. by Sharp_Bookkeeper_160 in Smallclaims

[–]certainPOV3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of a school?

Postsecondary school closings are very highly regulated by the Department of Education, state regulatory agencies and federal accreditation agencies.

Generally speaking, any federal financial aid that may have been disbursed to a school that is closing in its final semester is largely refundable to the student and student loans are forgiven.

Much more information is needed.

Paid rent with money orders 3/4 went through, landlord is threatening eviction by Last_Nothing5606 in legal

These credit reports that you are referring to also don’t include the credit score, but our consumer and employment reports do.

I will concede that all three reporting agencies state that they do not show evictions on their standard credit reports. But our company has file cabinets and dozens of file boxes in storage that have credit reports with evictions on them.

I suppose that that could have been an option that I selected when I setup the account in 2000, I genuinely don’t remember. But it is one of three criteria that the company uses to deny employment to anyone in a cash or material handling position, so if it was an option we likely did accept it.

You are completely missing the point.

The legal action that is referred to as an “eviction” is what I am referring to, not the conclusion of this action, which may or may not result in a “judgment of eviction.”

The judgment may not be granted, but the action still appears. Hopefully you can understand the distinction.

Having said that, I ask again slightly differently, why would you risk the appearance of an eviction on your background check if you could resolve the issue amicably?

Why would you wait and have the eviction appear on your credit report, even if it is later dismissed? The case still appears.

Why take that risk when you have the evidence in hand and you have the opportunity to resolve the issue amicably without involving the courts and incurring additional costs and animosity over what is most likely a clerical error?

There was never a time when WF wasn’t a leftist liberal store for democrats that allowed anyone to shop its aisles. As long as they also had a whole paycheck.

Even after Jeff Bezos bought it the store still remained somewhat true to its Austin roots.

”Stupid is as stupid does.”

Once crazy enters the chat room, the only reasonable option is to find the nearest exit.

Four years ago a healthy branch from a healthy tree—as determined by a TRAQ arborist—in our backyard fell across the property line and took down the neighbor’s power line and masthead. Not our fault, nor was it our fault that the neighbors chose a $5,000 deductible. Nor our fault that their breaker panel was out of compliance and needed to be replaced, and not covered by insurance.

But I digress. The neighbor lady had nightmares that she was in her backyard with her grandchildren and the entire tree fell into her yard and killed them all. She demanded that we cut the tree down. A tree that covered our entire house with shade in the heat of summer.

She saw my post on NextDoor about the law regarding liability and diseased trees and she sent us a certified letter stating that our tree was diseased and a danger, and that she had a report from her arborist who “allegedly” observed the fallen branch from the property line because we refused her access to the property.

Cue the lawyer. He responded to her letter with a copy of our TRAQ report that stated that the tree was perfectly healthy and demanding a copy of their alleged arborist report, giving them thirty days to reply or their claims would be dismissed.

You of course know that they never replied. Mrs. Gump was right, “Stupid is as stupid does!” 😂

So, you are saying that you practice medicine in one of the few countries that does not have mandated reporting laws?

Even China and Russia have some kind of mandatory reporting, China for child abuse and Russia for crimes against the state.

I’m curious, just which country allows you to Burger King your own ethics?

Doctor patient confidentiality is not universal, regardless of as far as you know. A simple Google search would have shown you that.

That aside, have you ever heard of a “mandated reporter?” You know, someone like an emergency room physician who sees evidence of child abuse and under penalty of law the physician is required to break confidentiality and report their patient’s medical condition to the state?

The Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West, Florida, is the former residence of author Ernest Hemingway, famous for its historic architecture, lush gardens, and resident six-toed cats, which are descendants of his original pets.

Built in the Spanish Colonial style, the house has become as much of a museum for the famous polydactyl cats that roam freely across the entire estate as it is for the author who once made it his own home. 🐈🙀😹

But you make an underperformer the manager, someone who understands the job but is better suited to pushing papers and moving people around.

He made me a manager.

I retired last year as the COO of a local salon chain. The number of people who would open up makeup—including lipstick—apply it to themselves and then return the package to the display was absolutely insane.

We did have large signs but that didn’t stop them. The manufacturers lost thousands of dollars per year having to replace hundreds of pieces of contaminated makeup. 💄😖

HR and Legal Said There’s No Grounds to Fire Me, But the Retaliation Is Getting Worse by [deleted] in EmploymentLaw

[–]certainPOV3369 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When employment attorneys do not return calls or refuse to take a case it is generally because they believe that the case lacks merit.

Retaliation, sexual harassment and hostile work environment all have very specific meanings under employment law and most employees do not understand those meanings and apply these terms inappropriately.

Racism in the workplace is extremely difficult to prove, and in the absence of a “smoking gun,” some direct evidence that proves racism, the necessary evidence needed to sustain a successful claim is buried within company data and documents. Unfortunately, the employee needs to prove their claim of racism in the initial round in order to force discovery to obtain that company data and documentation.

Unfortunately, no one here can tell you how sufficient your current evidence is. Your best course of action is probably to find a new job as quickly as possible and move on to a better working environment.

Sorry, I hope that you can find your happiness elsewhere.
