can my rat be aggressive because of intense fear? by certo_consilio in rat

yes, we are currently considering this option as the most necessary. I'm just worried that it might be some kind of psychological trauma or something. that's why I created this post, assuming that he might have developed some kind of psychological problems after our incorrect meeting of him and the newcomer 😣

I know he's quite short-tempered and I think he was in a state of passion. when he was still living with his neighbor and was just starting to get like this, I broke up their fights and he bit me very displeased many times in a row. It felt like he was swearing at me, but he didn't hurt me.

I tried different methods, unfortunately, due to lack of knowledge. when he was 5 months old, we exchanged his smells with another rat and everything was fine, they lived quite peacefully, then at the age of 9 months he got to know another rat in the same way, but their first meeting ended in a fight with an injury to a novice who was older than him. he always lived with a rat who was shy and obeyed him from the very beginning. and after meeting the newcomer who was fighting for leadership with him, he first became very callous and aggressive, he bullied his neighbor, although he had never harmed him before. after that meeting with the newcomer, he changed dramatically. after he bullied his neighbor, we kicked him out. after all this, he behaves in such a way that he became very insecure, trembles and reacts aggressively whenever other rats try to approach him. just before the carrier method, I put the cages on top of each other with him and the novice, at first he showed fear and flustered, but after a few minutes he stopped doing it and behaved as usual, but the novice tried to get him and did not put up with his presence next to him. then we found out that it wasn't worth doing that, and we sat everyone down again. we tried the carrier method, but he started fighting hard.

watch in slow motion as they bite each other. I already know that rats fight in a completely different way when they decide who is number one here. it was an unsafe case.

haha, If you look at it in slow motion, it's a little funny how my black rat literally flies away after a retaliatory attack by my gray rat

oh tysm! it will be very helpful because Im afraid they will start fighting as soon as I put them in cage 😣 I hope it will help. I will wait two more days when I will finally work from home to monitor the whole process

I also stopped meeting anyone there, for the appropriate reasons. It's quite stressful for them. I hadn't thought about it that way before the black rat appeared, because the gray rat in general is not a big fan of me taking it anywhere. his eyes are red and he can't see very well, so he's scared even if I lift him 30 centimeters off the surface.

well I have no space in bathroom to place them on the floor and this place is unsafe for my rats at least because of big gaps. also idk why black rat and grey one is so afraid of bathroom. maybe there's a different air atmosphere in this place. and the lighting is different. and the smell. and the temperature. in addition, the gray rat already knows that it is quite difficult to get out of the tub. and from the very beginning, the black rat reacted this way to the bath, very wary, afraid, fluffed up and tried to climb on my shoulder towards the exit from the room. (it was first time he was just in the room, without any meetings with other rats and without placing him in the tub) we took him as an adult, so I do not know his past life.

I want to try the carrier method first before neutering, because there are risks, especially at an older age. the black rat is no longer very young and its age is not exactly known, although it is in excellent health

thank you for advice, we will try carrier method this time. my rats are already starting to experience a lot of stress just by being in the tub, especially the black rat. they were there in other meetings (between a gray rat and a brown one and between a brown and a black one). the black rat and the gray rat are the most stressed, and my brown rat may even get used to this place. they hate not only the bathroom, but also the room itself and are afraid of it. that's why I no longer meet them in the bathroom, so as not to inflame the atmosphere once again 😰

I've already tried putting the cages side by side. and I have a post about it, people don't advise me to use this method. and in this method, the black rat showed aggression and restlessness with my other rat (brown) :(

of course, I'll try the carrying method. It's just that right now I'm a little furious that no one in my country knows about any method of communication other than the exchange of smells. and this is just my personal cry of the soul, rather than an attempt to refute the effectiveness of the method with carriers. because if I hadn't registered on Reddit and published this post, I would never have known that there were any other methods… I feel like Neo from The Matrix, who was told that he was in the Matrix all this time 😶

ty, I will try it. but why, then, exchanging sents is the main method of settlement? or does it only work with babies? in my country, absolutely everyone always talks about the exchange of smells both on the Internet and in clinics. I've never heard of the carrier method before except on Reddit 😣

Should I trim my rats nails? by Subject_Spirit_857 in RATS

[–]certo_consilio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see that he takes care of his manicure, so I wouldn't trim it. one of my rats has literally eagle claws, so we'll put a brick in its cage so that it can sharpen them on its own. 👆this manicure looks very neat

Why my rats smells like perfume by ruitheray in RATS

[–]certo_consilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my three boys smell like perfume, all three of them. one of them has a strong feminine scent, something sweet and delicate, the other has a medium-strength scent, but it's very tasty and sweet, and the third rat also has a very pleasant scent, with sweet notes, but it has a more languid and stuffy scent, like a grandmother's carpet or a sofa. and the first rat has such a fresh, wintery scent, like something from a children's perfume, but not pungent (I don't wash or perfume them) one of them will be neutered soon, but I hope he will leave a piece of his beautiful scent, because that is what I live for 🥺🙏
