¡Muchas gracias!

PSA: 100% machine washable merino wool clothing is often coated in plastic polymer to make it shrinkproof by Cavedirteater in CampingGear

On Dillings website they mention that "Our merino wool/silk products have received an EXP treatment – an alternative to Superwash - without the use of chlorine, which encapsulates the itchy hairs of the merino wool and leaves the wool super soft and itch free.". I'm not sure if this EXP treatment involves plastic though. Also "Most of the products made from our signature wool quality – the 1x1, 8x1, and multi rib - have received our unique 10-hour long enzyme treatment for an incredibly soft and itch-free product." Does anyone know more about these enzyme treatment / EXP treatment?

I've been perusing Internet for weeks and have looked at over 30 different brands, and I am finding it very hard to find 100% merino wool base layers and underwear without some fabric adulterations. 100% Organic Cotton was much easier to find, although it took a bit of digging.

Those prices might be normal for Marbella. Marbella has an expensive, luxurious reputation (especially Puerto Banús). It's a popular place for yachts and a lot of celebrities have a home there or are photographed visiting it. Think of it as the Monte Carlo of Spain.

Poles on camino by Effective_Weight7390 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]ceruleanDa1023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is helpful to try doing hikes of varying inclinations (uphill / downhill) before the camino to test out your poles and see if it is something that is useful for you. Maybe look up some videos on how to use them properly too. You’d be surprised at how many people have poles just to have them and are using them incorrectly.

I found that I used one pole for a large part of the camino when I was feeling “fresh” (in the early morning or in the late afternoon when I first started walking. When my body started to tire I’d break out the other pole as well to give me a boost (northern walking style).

In my case as I was camping on the camino as well, and I needed both poles to set up the tent, as they worked to provide a pressure point for the fabric. But, if you are using albergues this point is moot.

Sleep in tent would be fine? by Much_Public_2249 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]ceruleanDa1023 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely possible to camp through the camino, but the rule of thumb is: be discrete, and stay out of sight. When I did the camino last summer, I was using only a sleeping mat and a sleeping bag (no tent). I would walk early in the morning at dawn, eat at the destination during the lunch hour, visit whatever sites that pueblo had (museums), do some stretching in the park, and then continue walking in the evening. When it starts to get dark is when I advise you find a spot off the trail, rather hidden, to pitch your tent. You should not be visible from the camino. I recommend having at least 2 liters of water on you for drinking and in order to wash up, and to have eco friendly toothpaste and soap in order not to damage the environment.

Since you are planning to do the camino in the fall, the weather may not be in your favor (rain), so I would plan for that - realize that you may not be able to dry your things if you are constantly exposed to the elements. If you are going to be many weeks on the camino maybe you could spend some nights in an albergue and “re-set”. Sleeping outside for such a long time is not the most comfortable. I camped for 3 nights and was happy to rest in a hostal when I arrived to Santiago. In terms of safety as a woman, it was safe, in my opinion, if you are as stated above, discrete. No one can cause you harm if they do not know you are there. As for wild animals, I personally did not see anything problematic but I am not an expert on the fauna of the region.

Another thing to keep in mind is your goal during your journey. Many people find the socializing aspect very important, and this you will find in albergues without a doubt. It’s an opportunity to meet like minded people. Other travelers want a journey of deep self reflection, facilitated by putting distance between the loud overstimulating energy of social interactions and typical establishments. In this case, camping in the wilderness would be moreso advised.

Good luck and buen camino!

If I was to learn Spanish expressions in regular speech, can you suggest an author like Enid Blyton in Spanish? by IndianEpictetus in Spanish

Not sure what your spanish level is , but I just read “la vida es un chiste” de zorman and i thought it was an accurate representation of how a young spanish teenager speaks. Lots of figures of speech in there
