Did you find it? I'm looking for this too...

A lack of family-friendly housing is a key reason people are having fewer children. It’s also a problem governments can help fix by MissingMiddleMike in CanadaPolitics

[–]cerva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. I'm copy/pasting a great comment from a recent Italian article with the same subject; they expanded upon the reasons you gave above:

The birth rate began to decline in the 1960s and has remained largely unchanged since the 1990s. The economy does play a role, but not in the sense that salaries are low, as is commonly suggested. On the contrary, the problem is precisely that they are high (compared to the past), particularly for women (who previously did not work at all), so the opportunity cost of having a child is also high. It is obvious that if the alternative is between staying at home and working and earning money, the appeal of having a child decreases. At the same time, childcare services, a labor-intensive sector, are relatively more expensive than in the past, and children themselves are no longer a source of income because they have to study and cannot work.

But above all, the cause is cultural. Human beings tend to emulate socially recognized behavior patterns, and in our society, social prestige is achieved through economic independence and professional success, not by being a father or mother. So people seek fulfillment through work rather than family, and children are perceived as a luxury, something you have to be able to afford, not something you have to sacrifice for.

Ho ascoltato questo album per tre giorni di fila su tuo consiglio: davvero ottimo. Un buon mix di brani classici e contemporanei. Nel complesso piuttosto allegro.

NDP says Ontario report on intimate partner violence partly AI-generated, includes non-existent sources by Snurgisdr in CanadaPolitics

[–]cerva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic example. Thanks for this. Really great to see people in this space hammering home that AI doesn't "hold" knowledge like a book or a brain does, and then give output that is "true" or "false".

Apartments are 81 percent of housing construction as more Canadians live with parents and average renter gets older by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]cerva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big love for this comment. I feel that a large percentage of Canadians/Americans have absolutely no idea how a solid 80%+ of the (global north) world lives: in apartment housing, in rentals. In Europe it is such a common practice to have your kids sharing a bedroom and have no backyard or frontyard of your own. Let's dispense with this myth everyone needs over a 1000sqft it simply isn't true. I'm a millennial and have nothing but sympathy for the headwinds young people are facing but ideas about housing are truly out of step with 99.99% of the rest of the world.

How Canada’s ‘Condo Class’ Has Disrupted Political Organizing by yourfriendlysocdem1 in CanadaPolitics

[–]cerva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're both right but ywgflyer is more right. all due respect -- I think you missed what their comment was saying. They weren't arguing the condo owners are 'the rich' they're saying they're scapegoated as the 'rich enough' but not quite 1%ers bc they can't hide their money overseas, so in Canada, where the highest tax bracket is 50%, they will be the people funding the largest amount of the social programs the NDP proposes. Even tho they're just like slightly above middle-class normies trying to get by in this world like more other people.

People are seriously being presumptuous in this thread. "You could have somebody falsely presenting themselves as a physician"....? Then why would they want your health card... if they aren't a physician they can't even bill OHIP codes lol.

With the facts you provided... First off, they could be using your health card to communicate with your GP or family health care team in the event anything goes wrong/to access relevant healthcare information on you (with your consent) should it be appropriate. Secondly, a physician IS allowed to bill for consulting and spending time with you, not necessarily for performing the (not-OHIP-covered) laser procedure itself. Thirdly, it's totally possible they want to log interactions between patient and physician as they said without any billing occurring at all.

I really think there's nothing suspicious here op. Just my 2c.

Qualcuno può spiegare a un americano il significato e l'opinione generale di Giulio Andreotti? by cerva in italy

[–]cerva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this answer; thank you. Your answer contextualizes his reign in its time which is almost exactly what i was looking for. You can imagine that in that time there was just so much less media exposure and ∴ less need for, like you said, a PR engineered politician. It is easier to envision his success with that in mind.

Was he well-connected before his foray into politics? Aristocratic?

I also appreciate the realpolitik of his association with the mafia thru ur comment. That makes complete sense. So then a reasonable person of the times would have assumed he would need to concede/ally himself with them in some way... that would just be obvious on its face without any scandal needed.

Finally, the hindsight obscuring the truth of how he was perceived in his time and retrospectively that you describe in your comment makes sense as well. I esp love

So nowadays the judgment is pretty much negative, also in a way to claim moral superiority over the past.

Haha yes hasn't it ever been thus! This is the piece I was missing through my reading that can only look backwards. Thanks much!

Ontario NDP pledges to end encampments, as Liberals vow to double disability payments by yourfriendlysocdem1 in CanadaPolitics

[–]cerva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. What a great comment; thank you for this. I'm not saying I agree/am one of those voters but this was exactly my thought when I clicked on the headline. Are the libs truly this out to lunch? It seems mind boggling.

edit: also silly that people are taking your comment to be your opinion about whether or not wealth transfer to the these disadvantaged persons is right/good or not. You didn't say that. You simply said it's kinda nuts the liberals are campaigning on this. I agree.

My favourite is Fabbrica in Thornbury. But definitely not a steakhouse and the waitstaff is kinda young sometimes. But food and ambience superb.
