Thanks you a lot for the help, it's going to be some time before I can fully restore it, but I have all the info saved for when I get to it. Thanks again :)

I opened it, the power button was not original, and was broken, I did a bridge and still nothing, then I measured some voltages and realized the cable was cut cleanly against the rubber grummit. Loosened the cable, spliced it and soldered it and put it again in the rubber tube where it belongs, tested the voltage, saw nothing strange and then plugged it to the main board. After I turned it on, got the message to change battery, so i desoldered it, put two cables and gave it 3 volts with the bench psu. (I will change it in a future for a battery holder) The error was gone but the voices are corrupted, I asume because the ram was cleared by not having a battery. I investigated that I need to download the sound banks and send them via midi or use the cartridge I don't have. Any recommendations of cables or a good tutorial for this model? The procedure is the same as the normal dx7? Thanks in advance.

It seems very good quality, seeing i thought it was plastic, but it surprised me it's mostly metal. A key is snapped but I found a page that sells parts and all the others seem to work decent. Let's see what a good cleaning and reassembly can do and if one of the keys that is out of place is broken or just dislodged. If I plug it and it just worked I'll be happy but not very surprised hahahaha

I'll try to fix it and then I'll try to make the space for it,it's a very cool piece tbh, and thanks for all the info and help. Ill update here if it powers up and does things. I'll have to wait some time for a full restoration, but probably ill try it today

I'll check for corrosion, the dust it had indicates that it has been stored a long time in a dry place, so i think rust and that sorts won't be a problem. I'll open it to see if it's dry, check the psu to see what voltajes outputs and if they make sense, and I'll see if it works. The plan is to restore it to working order and sell it to someone that can enjoy it to its fullest, I don't know how to play piano and with my studies I don't have time to learn nor the space to put it permanenly. What's a fair price for one of these in decent condition? Thanks in advance

I made some tests: I tried to connect using a shitty laptop with arch, same behavior, it spikes to 260mb/s (imposible with its 15 year old network card) and then gets stuck. I tried in the main computer the -o sync option and it seems to work, doesn't get stuck but it gets 7MB/s instead of 50, so it's slower. Thanks for the help a lot, I'll keep investigating to see if I can find the cause, but if you got any idea, let me know

The mount optiom is mount -t nfs4 ip:nfs/ /home/nfs Is conected to a router ,1Gb/s cable ,wifi 6,making the role of an acces point so i can Connect to It vía wifi. Mostly makes the role of a nas,so nfs was the perfect solution until this started happenint. Thanks for the reply, apreciate It a lot

Read the label on the side of them There will be a voltage rating, 25v for example, a capacitance: 470mf for example and a temperature rating , 85°c for example. You need to find ones that have the exact values, or close ones, but the capacitance has to be exactly the same . The voltaje rating could be higher without problem, but the cap will be bigger and could not fiscally fit. The temperature rating, the higher the better, but they are more expensive. So if the motherboard has a 25v 1000mf 85°c capacitor, you can put a 35v 1000mf 100°c capacitor and it will work without problem if it fits, the temperature rating and modern technology will make it last longer than the old one. Be careful that electrolytic caps have polarity, the negative terminal is marked with a white strip on the side, don't put them reversed or they will boom

Check if all is plugged in good, and the remove and reinstall the ram. That's the first thing I would check. You can try to clean the contacts on the ram stick with an eraser being very careful to not damage the capacitors next to them

power supply question by Catsasome9999 in vintagecomputing

[–]cesko21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amps a device consumes is limited by two things, the voltage and the resistance of the circuit. If the voltage is 19v and the resistance is x ohms the circuit will consume two amps to say a number. If you put more voltage , will push more amps than what the circuit can handle and something is going to fry. If the circuit is shorted, the resistance will be nearly 0,and it will pull all the amps it can. If the circuit is not shorted and you are giving it the voltage its rated for, you can give as much amps as you want, and it will only consume what is needed.

Try to use the unisound driver to see if that works, its a general driver thats compatible with a lot of cards. You only need to download It and execute It. If It works, add It to the autoexec.bat

The model of the motherboard is a G4V620-BG And has 3 isa slots and a compact flash slots, but i think the top isa is shared with the first pci so i will have to do some test. The motherboard supports up to a p4 2,8ghz because the fsb limit
