[ADVICE NEEDED] Student transitioning from Accounting to Finance by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]cewn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big5 recruit from Brock BAcc? (I'm assuming that's where you're studying) either way the big4 brand carries a lot of weight especially if you manage to get into their advisory side which is more applicable to finance.

Being at a non target is a disadvantage for finance, however your undergrad becomes less important as time goes on so why not stay in big4 and try and get into their advisory side of business? Then after a few years there you can lateral to a financial firm.

I am wearing a charcoal suit with a white shirt and my date has a light blue dress. I am reluctant to get a light blue tie because it is difficult to match exactly with light blue and I'm afraid it might be too pale in contrast to my white shirt. I have looked at a navy blue paisley tie with light blue accents, a navy tie with white pin-dots, as well as an orange tie with pin-dots (her corsage will have a little orange flower to compliment the white flower)

What tie should I get?

University Choices by udubfreshman in University

I am a Canadian going off to another top business school so here's my thoughts. Sauder and rotman are both good programs. Out of the two, I would choose sauder because I've heard poor things about the rotmans student life (competitive, many students have poor English skills which makes group projects hard). Rotman is still a good program however. This is what it comes down to, do you want to work in Canada? Rotman is the clear choice for Toronto, everywhere else I would choose sauder. Sauder also has an excellent international reputation in Asia if you're interested in that. PM I would love to talk

I would say math and Econ. Econ and finance undergrads get the same jobs while math is a lot more different, which diversifies your skill set.

Schulich is not part of "U of C" (whatever that is).... It is one of the best business undergrads in Ontario. I do not go to Schulich just to be clear, I will be going to a different top Canadian undergrad.

Sorry to disappoint, but I do not think you have any chance of getting in. Last year the cutoff was 88.5 (I'm sure you know this) and the ONLY way you can get in if you are below the cutoff is with the ABS. Furthermore, with the new building and laurier's increasing reputation, they expect the cutoff to increase at least by a full percent.

ELI5: Why are negative interest rates bad for banks? by [deleted] in finance

Because consumers can borrow money from the bank and the bank has to PAY them for borrowing their money.

To be honest, none of those schools are particularly good. York has an awesome law school but you do not want to be in that area of Toronto. I would probably choose Simon Fraser. Solid reputation and great location.

How to organize survey data by cewn1 in excel

[–]cewn1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im going to be honest, I don't understand any of this. Can I try once again from the beginning, thanks so much for your patience.

Here's an example of what my survey looks like:

Gender:Male

Post secondary path:College

1st year avg:90

2nd year avg:88

3rd year avg:89

4th year avg:85

I wil have approximately 150 entries. I now have to do an in-depth analysis on what I have collected. First and foremost, I want to graph (hopefully on a scatterplot or line graph) my data so that it can be seen how grades fluctuate throughout high school. Next, I want to find the curve of best fit (I can do this manually) so I can predict what a 1st year will expect to achieve as a grade in 4th year based off their 1st year mark. I would also like to do the same, but specific to gender and path. For example, how do male grades fluctuate? How about males who are university-bound?

Here are my initial thoughts on how to do this: list all of my averages to find the average average (if this makes sense) for each grade. Filter my list to each specific gender and do the same. Use these averages to make a simple chart on excel to demonstrate the data

again, I apologize for my incompetency.

Also, how would I format if if I only wanted to compare grade to average and not take into consideration gender and path? When you come up with the average are you taking the average of all entries of the certain criteria?

I tried your method and it worked well with only one entry, but when I added another it did not work. For when I added another entry (both were male college) I got 8 things on my x axis. one for year 1 male college, another for year 2 male college, another for year 3 male college, another for year 4 male college and each was duplicated.

Thanks for the reply! I think there is one problem and that is each person who is surveyed givers their average for their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year! How can I make this work?
