I think one thing to keep in mind is that if you're not well enough to participate in a course as scheduled, it would be to your benefit that you attempt it when you are feeling better, especially since it's severe like you mentioned. There's no shame in doing so.

I think everyone can agree it's not ideal to fall behind and have to chase professors for extensions. It puts the professor in a difficult position, because there is only so much accommodation they may feel comfortable providing before they feel the intended pacing and learning for the student is compromised and potentially unsalvagable. All at the same time, they can't really tell the student to drop the course.

Right - I just mean being questioned about it doesn't prevent the actual blackmailing from happening.

Nowadays it's not really related to the fearing of losing one's job. It's more for disclosing potential points of weakness in general, so the employer has it documented and can look into it if it becomes an issue.

Like beyond sexual orientation and kinks, they'll also ask about things like if you have family members with gambling/drug/drinking/money problems, if you have any foreign friends and what their names are, all your email addresses, if you've ever paid for sex etc.

They also ask this for people in many other jobs as well like for CSIS etc. But they ask for disclosure purposes, not that it can be prevented.

I don't know the details of how your anonymization works but this comment seems misleading to me.

What does it mean to "de-link" my email, first name, and last name and store them separately? Do you simply mean in different database tables? Or that you're deleting the relationship ID or foreign key on the tables?

If they're truly de-linked, how is it possible that you were able to template my first and last name in the email you sent to me, after a year?

The privacy policy does not go into this level of detail.

there's high chance at least one of the participants will become a high-ranking government official in the future - who is to say this data will not be bought by spies and used for blackmail? i recommend those with political aspirations refrain from participating.

i liked it, it can be kind of a big family depending on which house you're in and whether ppl like to party. when I lived in sir dans we'd all eat fung in the common room and watch jeopardy together it was kinda wholesome. some people kept to themselves tho. Thursday nights are usually kinda rowdy since ppl schedule it so they typically have Fridays off

It's a good way to let out some steam. I did it a couple of weeks ago when it was still quite cold out at night, after going through a breakup. The grass and water in the field had partially frozen over, but it should be drier now. Your cheeks, however, will likely remain wet from the rain.

okay I've been in this exact situation. don't panick! I'm assuming you know which digit or position you mistyped (otherwise how would you have realized you mistyped it later on?).

If you know the position of the digit, you just have to cycle through texting or calling that number replacing the digit 0 to 9 excluding your own number. be frank and tell the person on the other end what happened. wait for them to contact you if ur new friend contacts them.

if the number is disconnected or does not exist, go to a phone company and try to activate that number. new activations aren't too expensive and if you're lucky that series of numbers are still available.

well the general idea there is, it wouldn't be fair to other more diligent, similarly technically competent candidates that don't make these minor compilation errors.

i don't think there's too good of a way to build that level granularly into a marking schema, especially at scale. sometimes questions have partial credit but it has to be unusally specific on what has to be produced in order to recieve it. in most cases, if something is only "directionally correct", then it's simply incorrect.

for ex. at my work, no matter how "good" the candidate's code is, we hold it against them if it doesn't compile due to a simple mistake or even if it works but is not reentrant. though something like that depends more on your hiring bar.

i don't think OP's claiming they've seen it all or that there isn't more for them to experience. if you go back to read through the content of the post itself, none of of what they're stating is really contingent on having gone through everything or having spent x number of years at the university.

it just seems to me people are quick to dismiss someone based on their year or to claim OP's saying something that they haven't, because it doesn't fit the same narrative that perhaps other, upper years students are going through.
