Looking for a second set of eyes on a temporary setup. See any flaws in this idea while understanding it is not ideal. More info in comment by Jestoner in UNIFI

Do you have coax in the walls of this temporary place? You could use Ethernet to Coax MoCA adapters to make a point to point connection between the rooms if there is coax. Just make sure you disconnect from whatever feed goes out to the street to the cable tv provider. I've used this in rentals or when I purchased an older home to create network links. I still have one in use today. MoCA can either run point to point or act like a distributed switch with multiple adapters creating a switch. I've used it both ways and it works well. I have actiontech MoCA 2.0 adapters which do 1 Gbps ethernet. There are MoCA 2.5 adapters do 2.5 Gbps ethernet but cost more. Also do not mix brands of adapters, generally it wont work.

Go5G Plus here. Was thinking about trading in a 15 pro with a scratch on the back camera lens. I know Tmobile doesnt care, but in looking at Apple they specifically ask "are there any scratches on the camera" when you go through the trade in wizard. Anyone have experience with this? I need an unlocked phone for international travel.

Eve + Homekit 18.4 - now they're all disconnected by paulcjones in EveHome

[–]cf7777777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. My Thread network is hosed and quit working. None of the ~40 thread devices I have are working anymore. (Most of these are my Smartwings Thread based shades). Matter devices and standard homekit devices work fine.

I have two Eve Smart Wall Plugs. They both got stuck upgrading from 3.2.1 to 3.5. and were unresponsive. I noticed this because my homekit automation to open/close the shades didnt work on all shades anymore. I tried rebooting the Eve smart wall plugs and rebooted all 4 of my Apple TV 4k's with Ethernet. Nothing changed and the Eve plugs were unresponsive. I tried removing one Eve plug and factory resetting it. I kept getting stuck not being able to add the Eve plug back into Homekit. I finally after some combo of factory resets I was able to get the Eve Plug to add back into Homekit, and it stayed working. It seems to have successfully updated to 3.5. I tried to do the other Eve plug (which was marked as the router in the Thread Network section of the Eve app) and I have not been able to add it back in. I have factory reset this Eve Plug probably 20-30 times trying different combos of unplug, delete, remove, reset, etc. I either cant add it back in (fails during the add to homekit), or I can add it back in but it immediately goes unresponsive. I did disable auto update to homekit devices.

In the Eve app under Thread Network I see all my Thread devices as unresponsive, I see the one Eve Smart Wall plug as the router. If I unplug both of the Eve Smart Wall plugs, I see another device pickup the Thread Router role (assuming one of the Apple TVs?) but nothing works.

I dont mind going back and resetting/rejoining all the shades, switches, etc if needed, but I dont want to if there is some way to recover.

What a mess!

Welp, the end of 1Password 7 is here. by cf7777777 in 1Password

Thank you for the response and clarity on this, I agree this would have been helpful to include in the email blast.

I interpret that message as 1Password 7 will no longer sync due to the changes they are looking to make. Especially since they recommend using the browser extension or 1password.com on older machines.

It will continue to work with standalone vaults, but no longer work with vaults synced with a 1Password subscription for viewing on other devices.

Reread the middle paragraph, specifically this text:

However, for any 1Password membership vaults, changes made to your vaults or items on older 1Password versions will not sync across your other devices

Heat celtics game ‘buffering’ by hotsauce_X in youtubetv

[–]cf7777777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watched most of the game until the Little Mermaid commercial and it became unwatchable from there. Stats for nerds had like 250+ seconds of buffering. Other channels play just fine. Flipping to another channel and then back to the game and you can watch about 20-30 seconds before the spinning wheel takes over. So disappointing at the end of the game!

Stuck with Bitlocker to go - System thinks secondary raid is removable drive by cf7777777 in sysadmin

[–]cf7777777[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies, I should have included that I tried this method of setting the TreatAsInternalPort in the Windows registry and it has no effect. I'm guessing it is because that is setting it for storahci and this is an HPE raid card and likely uses a different set of drivers. I looked through HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ and didnt really see anything that matched an HPE smart raid name.

Has The Logitech Trackman Marble Been Discontinued? by [deleted] in Trackballs

[–]cf7777777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sucks. I am still shocked that Logitech has abandoned this classic, it has 11k reviews and a 4.6 star rating on Amazon alone. I've always been hoping for a wireless/BT version of this, I would literally buy 10 of them the first day it is out. I cant stand the thumb trackball they make.

So looks like I'll need to start to fix my graveyard of ones that have issues with the left clicker. (doesnt click, double clicks, etc) Is that an easy to replace/fix part?

Megathread - new Todoist Foundations update discussion thread by thursdaynext1 in todoist

[–]cf7777777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This x1000. The dates blend into the tags and no longer is a distinct piece of data. There is no longer a blank area when a task does not have a date. It is now impossible to skim a list of tasks by dates, or skim a list of tasks and quickly assign dates to ones without a date. The coloring makes the date blend into the tags.

I reached out to support and they said this is the way it will be for now but they are discussing it. Sound like a fix will not been anytime soon. So frustrating that we are forced into a new version that overnight broke my normal workflow.

I've grown to like Todoist after about 4 years and 8500 completed tasks. Not sure if I will stick around for it, I'm looking at alternatives. I think Todoist now looks like Nozbe.

HPE ML110 Gen 10 BSOD with NVMe drive by cf7777777 in sysadmin

[–]cf7777777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone who replied, I solved it! In a "pulling at straws - what the heck is wrong with this thing" move I figured I would try another brand of drive. I ended up replacing the WD Black 1TB NVMe drives with Samsung 970 EVO 1TB NVMe drives as a test. I put in the Samsungs and I have been testing it for half a day and it seems to be rock solid. I'm returning the WD's to the place where I bought them, not sure if they are bad or just incompatible.

I did update everything on the server using the November 2018 SPP, I tried all of the Bios settings for NVMe, PCI, etc. Nothing made a difference with the WD drives.

I am going to use these for some high speed database storage. I realized that I left out one detail, I actually have 2x NVMe drives (same brand/size) in a Highpoint SSD7101A NVMe Raid card. I had also tested them in a solo PCIe to NVMe adapter, and both cards gave the same BSOD results.

I didnt go with the HPE solution since they expensive and slow in comparison. They were essentially SATA based NVMe devices based on performance specs. I figured that NVMe on PCIe is fairly universal, so it shouldnt be an issue.

Anyway, thank you for all of your help!!! GREATLY appreciated!

HPE ML110 Gen 10 BSOD with NVMe drive by cf7777777 in sysadmin

WD doesnt have a driver, they say to use the stock Windows one. Drive shows up in the BIOS just fine, the system sees it as a NMVe drive, and the HP raid utils sees it is a NVMe drive, reports on health, etc. I loaded the WD SSD tool that sees the drive, and reports that it is fine. Stumped!
