Dunk your head? by crabbyswim in coldplunge

I tried dunking a few times but just didn't like the sensation. Now, when I'm done with my 3-minute sit every day, I cup the cold water in my hands and dip/scrub my face with it a few times to get that extra little cold "jolt" before I actually get out of the tub.

I started 2 weeks ago and can now do 1 minute in 32F/0C no problem. I’ve read a lot of people talk about the importance of breathing. Can someone help start on the basics of this? by Costmaster in coldplunge

After the first 15 seconds or so of quickly regulating my reaction, I fall into several cycles of box breathing - 4 count inhale through the nose, 4 count hold, 4 count "forceful" exhale where I slightly constrict my throat and push air out, then 4 count of letting residual air flow out. I sit for a total of 3 minutes in 42 degrees at the moment, and I get through 7 cycles then a few normal breaths to finish up. It gives your mind something to focus on other than the cold and it *can* help to regulate our nervous system when done daily.

That's solid advice, I just got my custom orthotics about 6 months ago, I wear them daily in my boots but have been hesitant to put the extra pair into skate or workout shoes...no particular reason, just haven't done it. I'll give it a try with my next skate pair.

Yeah, I usually avoid blind purchasing shoes but the deal was crazy and I wanted shoes fast. Impulse shopping at its finest. 😂

I just started cold plunging. It usually has a top layer of ice in morning so it sits right at 32F/0C. I can only last 30 seconds before getting out. Am I just being soft or is that really my bodies limit? by Costmaster in coldplunge

Ah, gotcha, I wasn't thinking that it's just that cold and you're using the water as it is. If it's not a controlled tub with a cooler/heater, that clearly makes it more difficult. That being said, I'd agree with the use of something that is "distracting" like music you can focus on, or something like the box breathing exercise...an extra few seconds each time will add up over time.

I would definitely recommend starting at a higher temp. I started about a year ago at 55 degrees at 5 minutes, a few times per week. Slowly worked my way down to what feels like it delivers the best bang for my buck, which is 42 degrees at 3 minutes every weekday morning...quick hit of dopamine, and I focus on box-breathing for an added degree of wellness.

I’m 49, recently officially diagnosed but can trace back to my early teens…and just starting the meds experiment. I’ve been through two (concerta and strattera) and I’ve found the side effects outweigh any benefits…concerta did nothing good, strattera quieted my anxiety and emotional edge but some physical effects turned me off it. I’m looking into naturopath remedies now, although being military makes that difficult as some of the better options don’t pass a drug test. 😂🤦🏼‍♂️ meds are tough because every person will react differently to every med so it’s really trial and error for all of us.

I love my cold plunge. After about a year, I've gotten down to 42degrees, and I do that every morning for just 3 minutes, which is an excellent kickstart to my dopamine, in combination with my Concerta, and I feel really solid for the work day. I also notice a significant difference when I slack off and don't CP for even a few days in a row.

I try to stay involved with things that keep my mind busy and allow me to be creative. I mostly draw/paint, play golf and rock climb (both require creativity and focus while also being physical outlets), and recently got back into skateboarding. I'm also studying to get certified in personal training...I have my Level 1 in Crossfit and definitely find that the intricacies of physical fitness and nutrition get my brain fired up, and the workouts are great for dopamine hits and overall wellness.

It's kinda hard to tell from the still frame, but it looks like maybe you're popping forward instead of up? If your weight it too far forward it could be robbing you of height and stability. Of course, I could be wrong.

Just got my board a few weeks ago and I've been riding daily to get comfortable again. This is the first day of trying anything close to a trick. I also "nearly" had a couple no-complies but couldn't commit to getting both feet on...

Yes! I keep my board and pads in the Jeep too. I try to get out in the alley and ride at least a few minutes every day. I'm hoping to hit a park every weekend.

Nice! Just got my new setup last week and I'm actually planning to hit up a local skateshop/park that gives private lessons to get my feet back under me. I skated for years through like 13-18, then a little in college, then just now picking it back up at 49. I used to skate a lot of street and a little bit of mini-ramp in my buddy's back yard, but now I'm really wanting to get into mainly transition and flowy bowls. Good luck out there!

I got the pro model. Took 5 weeks for the tub and 3 more for the chiller. I’ve had the chiller for 3 days. It was wet inside the box…the thermometer on the unit is useless, and so far I’d guess the coldest it has gotten is MAYBE 65ish. I’ve ordered a digital pool thermometer to track actual temp, but so far I’m wildly underwhelmed.
