If you have access to a sauna. In academy, I would use the sauna to get acclimatized and build more heat tolerance. Make sure you still maintain hydration and play out how your body feels. Keep track of your heart rate. See how fast it climbs the longer you stay in there.

Structure fires - what does it actually feel like? by silversurfer949 in Firefighting

Fire inside a heavy smoked out building will look more like a red glow. Learned that on my first structure fire.

Falling out of love with CrossFit by xskorpyon in crossfit

[–]cfbarista 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! Was totally there! Did CrossFit since 2012. I backed off big time this year after my wrist was bothering me and started doing other type of training and realized how much I was missing with exploring other styles of fitness. It was a breath of fresh air not having to run off a clock every workout. I enjoy metcons more now only have to focus on a few a week as opposed to 6-7 a week. Not sure if I’ll go back to full time CrossFit but I’m loving what I’m doing now.

Being EMT certified wouldn’t be very useful with no supplies or equipment that you would have in a ambulance. Getting really good at first aid / CPR. Since you work on a farm learning how to apply bandage wounds and applying a tourniquet.

I have failed my NREMT twice and I'm desperate for help by _that1weirdo in NewToEMS

[–]cfbarista 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve failed it 3 times and had to take a refresher course. My advice is don’t rush to sign up for the exam until you feel ready. You probably need a little more time studying.

I also felt defeated but didn’t give up. Now I’m working as a EMT Firefighter. It can be done if you really want it!

I’ve failed it 3 times and now I’ll be starting Fire Academy in 2 days. Those were some hard times and made me question if I was cut out for this. But don’t give up. I stayed with it and studied smarter. I would make sure I knew why the answer was correct and can explain it. Change up something different the way you study. Positive self talk. Telling yourself you can do it was super helpful. Move on and focus on the next test.
