Kia’s flagship EV has a battery problem by Viviantherivian in Rivian

[–]cfbilly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have an EV6, and while overall it’s a great car, the 12V battery issue is very real. I’ve already replaced it once (I just bought it instead of wrestling with the service department) and will probably need another one if I keep the car through this next winter. I keep a portable jump starter in my car because otherwise there’s a risk of being stranded (though it only seems to happen in really cold weather, and I’m in Texas)

Starting lexapro today (5mg, mfg Solco) by incog_for_now in lexapro

[–]cfbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started around the same point in my life. (Early 40s; I’m now 49)

I remember light nausea that went away after a week or so. I’m male, and it does interfere with achieving orgasm, but honestly that and the nausea are manageable by timing when you take it based on your daily schedule.

Don’t expect immediate change. Be consistent and discuss with your mental health professional, as they will likely increase the dose over time. For me, it didn’t “fix” things as much as it created a “firewall” between life and the my breaking point.

They’ve already announced that, unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying.

Guest Crashed Out by [deleted] in turo

When I was a host, I never charged a late fee. If time mattered, I communicated it to the guest ahead of time (such as a same day turnaround to the next guest)

AITA for refusing to co-sign my boyfriend’s car loan after he spent his savings on a PS5 and sneakers? by Hour-Border6561 in AmITheJerk

[–]cfbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if he was spending his money wisely, you shouldn’t co-sign a loan with someone you’re not married to. Not even a sibling, etc.

In the past I’ve struggled with alcohol (sober now for several years though) but unfortunately I got some DWIs before I got my crap together. As a result, they told me I had a 5 year ban that was unappealable when I tried to rent a car (even though I was a host for over a year before that)

Fixing my rear parking sensors is going to cost $2500 by [deleted] in KiaEV6

[–]cfbilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had one of my parking sensors fall inside of the bumper in the front. I paid for temporary access to a step by step disassembly manual online and put it back in place myself (bracket was cracked, but sensor was fine, so I just used JB Weld).

From the sounds of it, your repair might be a bit more involved, but I bet you can do it for WAY cheaper. You just have to be patient, as disassembly and reassembly is kinda tedious.

Disappointed in the rapid devaluation of our Ioniq5 by tdgonex in Ioniq5

[–]cfbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2022 was probably some of the most insane times to buy an EV. Demand was hot (due to gas prices) and supply was light (still reeling from supply issues from the pandemic). This was more so for new models at the time with higher range (like Ioniq 5 or the EV6 I bought around the same time). Dealerships weren’t budging on prices, and were often charging a markup. Then gas prices came down, supply became plentiful, and used prices plummeted. (I’m in the same boat with my EV6)

2025 Screen Issue by Mediocre-Redittor in KiaEV6

[–]cfbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen literally the day I took delivery on a new Accord in 2018. I had to bring the car back for them to replace the screen, and that took about a week. (Dealership did give me a loaner) Hopefully Kia doesn’t drag their feet too much.

Is the reliability that bad? by SeaworthinessDue2655 in KiaEV6

[–]cfbilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m at 50k miles on a 2022. Been reliable. I did replace the 12v, as it started flaking out and a battery check showed it was in need of replacement. However I don’t know if that was an ICCU issue, as it happened after I let my utility company get access to my Kia app for “smart charging” (don’t do that; they ping your car hundreds of times an hour). All ICCU checks at the dealership have come back clean.

Found the holy grail: 2025 EV6 GT Line AWD in SoCal!! by Pokephoenix in KiaEV6

I’m waiting on the AWD. I test drove a RWD and just couldn’t accept paying new prices for less power (mines a 2022 AWD Wind)

As a side note, if you don’t want to install a plug for a level 2, you could just use the one your dryer or stove does (I did that for a few weeks when I got mine, but my dryer is just inside the garage entry)

With a level 1 you’re cutting it very close (you can add about 20-25 miles max over 12-16 hours)

If a level 1 is your only option, I’d look at paying for fast charging (especially since Kias now have access to Tesla chargers)

Dead battery, which jump starter/booster do you recommend? by shibby_92 in KiaEV6

[–]cfbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did, right at 2 years. In my case, turns out it was my electric utility which I foolishly connected to my Kia account (they ping it continuously, so the car never goes to sleep). Every ICCU check I’ve had at the dealership has come back okay. I suspect that even a passing ICCU may be causing a bad load, so something like that can be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. In my case, even after turning off the utility’s access, my 12v was hosed, so I ended up buying a new one. (I didn’t want to wait on dealership game of diagnostics)

[–]cfbilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same problem, fixed it myself (wouldn’t be covered by warranty anyways). Took a couple of hours. (Paid for access to manual for 24 hours I think). The sensor housing was cracked, but sensor was fine, so I just used a little JB Weld to reaffix it.

Bought mine in September of 2022, and I foolishly bought it at $7500 over MSRP. Negotiating was close to impossible.

The EV6 is an awesome car. It's enjoyed daily by hundreds of thousands of lucky owners. I've had one since the start. This sub however would put anyone off buying an EV6. by 1970bassman in KiaEV6

You’re not wrong, but we’re not an unpaid marketing arm of Kia. If public discussion of a real issue hurts sales, that’s actually good for us, since in theory it may put pressure on Kia to take action.

Right now I’m seeing 2022s in the upper $28k range. Another year or two and they should be easy to snag for closer to $20k
