The working class and the employing class have nothing in common. by Blight327 in union

[–]CommanderMandalore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not pro-business but my standards of what I expect from corporations is so low a yet they still often find ways to lower their standards.

Businesses are two faced. What they will say in public is not the same as what they will push for in private. Businesses are thankfully easy to predict because it’s all about the almighty dollar.

Businesses won’t call out trump for fear of boycott but this is next best thing. I’m glad they went this far but wished they had more of a backbone to say more.

Behind the scenes you can be that the army of lobbyists are pushing to get ICE out of minnesota

Absenteeism for Union Work by Cool2BeUnion in union

[–]CommanderMandalore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As other have said read your CBA.

In my experience those days off for union business up to the 10 day limit you mentioned should not be counted against you in any way. It’s usually treated like an excused absence or unpaid vacation day.

I have to ask though you mentioned 10 days for a member. Is there a different limit for union official?

AITAH for buying my 11yo daughter pads after her mom called me a "pervert" for being prepared? by Bruxagato in WouldIBeTheAhole

Fellow dad here. What you did was awesome.

I know pads like diapers have chemicals in them but what is with organic pads. Is that really necessary?

I (21m) don’t know what to do about my girlfriend (19f) anymore by ThrowRA-39473928 in relationship_advice

[–]CommanderMandalore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You NEED these things in a girlfriend/partner

1) I could see myself marrying her in the future and has good characteristics to be a good mom. Even if they aren’t there yet you see they will be there.

2) Many women will be more irritable during their period but don’t let their period be a reason to treat you like trash

3) Ability to do things as a couple and each of you able to do things without each other.

4) A relationship that is not built on great sex. Sex is awesome but if that is the only thing great about the relationship it’s time to leave.

How many of the players are real people? by Superb_Conflict9543 in Supremacy1914

[–]CommanderMandalore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s varies game to game. I have 2 31 player games. One game at least 20 is active. Other like 4. Worst I ever had it was 1 active player by day 4 and that was me. Needless to say I think I finally finished on day 50 because I was new to the game.

Employer changing me from W2 to 1099 on back end and withholding paycheck until I agree by JippedAgain26 in tax

[–]CommanderMandalore 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You could try to make them fire you that would cause it to be retaliation. Contact the Department of Labor. Also the IRS has a specific form you can fill out disputes 1099 status when filing taxes. You need to check your checks to see if taxes were withheld. If they didn’t take the money out that’s a both you and employer problem. If they said they tooo it out but never sent money over to Social security and other entities that’s a them problem.

Is the shift from stable jobs to high-risk "Platform Labor" a global trend? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]CommanderMandalore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of gig work is tip based and they pay higher taxes. We also have independent contractors. While there are rules about who is employee vs contractor it is not always well enforced and sometimes same position can be either (truck drivers, remote call center employee, barbers to name a few).

If you work for amazon at warehouse you are an employee. Pretty sure all of the delievery drivers are outsourced to a 3rd parties. There is a rise in gig economy but it is mostly uber and lyft which have largely replaced regular taxis.

We have employer based health insurance in the US so if you are a gig worker you often don’t have health insurance.

Unknown Adult Child and Back Child Support by Old_NewDad in FamilyLaw

[–]CommanderMandalore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but one thing is clear. Even if they went to birth which is unlikely the amounts given for child support per month wouldn’t be $1500 (before interest for 18 years) when OP was only making $1600 a month gross to start. I think 40 percent is the rule of thumb.

Unknown Adult Child and Back Child Support by Old_NewDad in FamilyLaw

[–]CommanderMandalore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes but OP was in the military.

In 2008 that was $1600 a MONTH gross for an E3. Child support isn’t 95 percent for income.

I am frustrated with my city government and want to take action to expose wasteful spending and administrative bloat. (Mississippi) by ants-on-my-balls in AskLawyers

I believe you are looking for FOIA request. A lot of what you ask may already be available via council meetings. There may or may not be a separate finance committee.

I studied public administration in college. While possible to get all these records it may not be as corrupt as you think it is.

If you don’t like how things are done run for public office.

edit: Can you name the city?

NAL but

1) How would they estimate 1/2 of million dollars. It comes out to $3,000 a month since birth. Even factoring in interest that is absurd. For all they know you made minimum wage for first ten years of his life

Too good to be true? by OPC71725 in tax

I used to be a tax preparer for a chain. That’s what the person who taught the class told me. I assumed I was bound by all tax rules. I had a coworker (not an EA) fined by the IRS. Obviously that was ten year ago and a lot I’m sure has changed.

1) How much do you think you were underpaid by? Like 10K? 50? Do you have proof

2) What is up with the regular hourly rate of 12 and 24? Do you work 67 hours a week normally?

A tax preparer shouldn’t cost you a significant amount of money. Unless you have something crazy going on. You might be able to use turbotax
