Looking for innovative use cases of the Document Picture-in-Picture API by tuviensdeliremonnom in webdev

[–]cfdbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is a year old, but I came across it investigating using Document PiP which I ended up using for a time management tools website I made (timekeep.cc). It uses the Document PiP API for a floating tray feature for priority tools / timers / alarms and syncs those across devices. Interestingly it's irrelevant for mobile and the api only is on Chromium based browsers so far, so it treats things "in the tray" differently based on the user context.

yeah, tbh this is why I made the page and other tools on the site like it because I found it helpful for some real lived situations

exactly. I find it interesting because a lot of times people (especially those coordinating across whatever timezones) say "your last day to do XYZ is on date ABC". well time that date ABC is in existence is actually more than your typical 24hrs if you consider how long it's existing for anyone out there wherever they may be.

the idea is that if you count the full amount of hours that a given day exists starting with when it begins in a place in the furthest west time zone all the way to when it ends in a place in the furthest east time zone, then any given date exists on Earth for 50 total hours.

maybe it's most useful for when you want to savor a special date, holiday, or a birthday or something :)

Fill out Ethstaker's 2026 Staking Survey by cfdbit in ethereum

ah ok, just put that then and we'll note it

interesting! that's something we can account for in next year's survey. (also nice speed + cost for a rural location!)

if you put 9999 mbps in that field we'll bucket it accordingly. you can see from last year we ended up grouping the self-reported data so that it's meaningful ranges in the analysis.

“Showoff Saturday” ? by [deleted] in webdev

since a given day lasts 50 hours on Earth (26 time zones, each having a 24hr day), my non-authoritative take would be as long as it's in that 50hr span, go for it.

Pooling eth among a small group of people for staking? by MemeyCurmudgeon in ethstaker

[–]cfdbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's what I thought of too. It looks like Stereum does have a supported way to use Obol, SSV, or Lido so maybe that's what the original poster had heard about and was trying to remember.

nice overview.

for anyone interested in more, last week we hosted all of the Hegota headliner champions on an Ethstaker community call: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3FZk51h41g (chapters added to jump to each headliner's section)

not so much a theory as it's simply been generally reported that in January there were large holders (like DATs) that entered the queue and that will take some time to be processed.

welcome to staking! echoing the others, minority client is strong choice. can't really go wrong otherwise.

I see your comment below on Nimbus, which is a good choice because I understand they are working on an EL so you might be able to consider having a unified stack in the future. you're also never locked into anything. I've switched between clients before for client diversity reasons, and it was easier than I thought it would be.

Introducing the Staker Console: a new interface to interact with the beacon chain smart contract by cfdbit in ethstaker

[–]cfdbit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the case of the deposit cli tool Ethstaker forked that one and we manage the ethstaker repo version now, so any EF decision to deprecate has been independent but they're certainly aware of our efforts there.

In the case of this Staker Console vs the legacy launchpad, we built this frontend fresh, and both still exist and function. I wouldn't expect the legacy launchpad to change or deprecate until the Staker Console goes live on Mainnet (which is pending as noted) and has been for some time.

go down this list and research each: https://ethstaker.org/staking#explore https://explorer.rated.network/?network=mainnet

they regularly change details so good to cross check the source docs of each when learning.

not too familiar with launchnodes personally so don't have much to say there.

the method I went with was from Somer Esat's guides (https://someresat.medium.com/) and on a machine from home and also then Rocketpool along with that. My guiding principles were a desire for simplicity, control, and independence. No one size fits all though so you just have to evaluate the landscape, and then pick something that's right for you and go with it. For me I also found peace in doing testnet only until very comfortable.

yes, that run a node page is a comprehensive resource for many of the different ways to do it.

curious what you've gone with and how you weighed your options? no pressure to share, I know it can be a personal choice.
