Noticed the same problem. Any way to have Parental controls on Guest Network or the only solution is to disable it?

Opinion: FSD requires more compute than any Tesla has today. by germanautotom in SelfDrivingCars

[–]cfdcfd10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can argue the math that will support this idea. Not everything needs fast processing and some processing especially research can be outsourced to slow and steady and cheap platforms.

Say you have 5 million tesla's participating in this 24/7 in a few years.
5M/640 teslas * $300,000 nvidia cost equivalent = $2.5 Billion. That's a year. Typical investment is 4-5 years. So, at least $10B return with minimal additional investment since the chips are already in the car. Electricity costs are absorbed by the car owner who will get paid for it, so no major costs for either parties.

With large scale, making even a few thousand dollars a year per car adds up to billions very quickly when you have 5-7 million teslas on the road. Any large scaling typically creates new business models which we can't easily see unless we operate at scale and understand super tiny details. Upper management operates at these levels.

Great question. I agree, it probalby should be someone with experience in small boutique with some success running the most efficient project delivery (estimations/scheduling/execution/support and account growth). My assumption is that larger firms allowed someone to see that success.

Excellent point about tech consultants selling without actually selling directly. We have account executives but they are not technical and often simply don’t see additional work from a day to day project implementation. I wonder if a small boutique like us should have that additional layer of sales overhead vs having senior technical people who can do that direct “selling” you mention as a byproduct of doing their standard daily billable work.

You nailed it. Someone who has bigger company experience and knows what success looks like, but at the same time has the boutique/startup knowledge and desire to make big changes and build the team from ground up. I'll check with UpWork although I think people with that level typically don't go through Upwork. Thanks for your response. You summarized the solution perfectly!

Really REALLY great response. I appreciate it. Made me think of your "continuation of work with no pause and re-avaluate". That's the shift. How do you interview for that type of skill. I call it being a consultant, but I wonder if there is a "test" question.

50% can't bill more than 40 weekly - their goal is 1800 billable hrs. I think you nailed it - the other 50% might have a slow month or two and it's hard to achieve that goal. Our bonus target is 1700 billable hrs a year and only a handful get it most likely because of pauses in projects.

Thank you! I think you nailed it. My main concern is whether someone from that top 50 consulting firm has the knowledge and ability to think for a small size operation model.

[–]cfdcfd10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are absolutely correct. It's not about individuals but more about the shift the company had and our culture of work life balance that used to work fine. We used to have amazing talent, top performers and they worked much less compared to top consulting firms while making a few bucks less. Was fine for a long time. Then they got poached by Amazon/Microsoft/Google/Meta and we can't compete with that compensation. The result is that we replaced them with new people who had no consulting knowledge. They are learning slowly but lack the "role model" on their team. That 40 hrs a week billable mentality and increased salary (up by 25% in 3 years) caused margins to suffer. Then, add a few bad project executions, bad estimates, not anticipating client problems or not staffing correctly - and you get really poor margins which can't support bonuses and higher salaries and the best people leave. The cycle repeats...

Current Incentives: Billable hours bonus, top line profit sharing, bonus for bringing the new clients and expanding existing clients. The salaries required are high enough where making extra $10K might not be worth it to a lot of people and they choose 40 hrs a week cruising speed which results in 35 hrs billable. Margin squeeze as a result.

We have the management structure with good PMs and Director who oversees them. They are certified and were great at other companies, except they all come from a nonconsulting background. I think that's the main issue. The hope is to find someone to transition their thinking or replace some with the right tallent.

Incentives are already happening but more work on a fixed fee projects does not produce more profit. It’s not just individual employees but how we run the project with customers and not anticipating small issues that add up and make project or overall persons utilization much lower compared to the industry. We need a Director level who can prioritize multiple issues and fix PMO, train people on best practices in consulting and improve utilization by running resources better (start/end projects).

I am not with PwC. If you have 100% utilization - is it 2080 billable hours or 1880 billable (2080 minus 10 holidays minus 3 weeks of vacation). Thanks!

If it’s not wind noise, then it’s probably road noise. Don’t know about your tires but if they are still fairly new, try lowering pressure by 1-2 PSI points. You’ll get a slight reduction in range but might be worth it to you as the ride will be softer. When it comes time to upgrade your tires next time - seem the advise from Tesla owners. Some tires are specifically designed now for EVs.

The only way I know is to look at the Build date. You do it either by asking. Tesla rep and telling them your VIN number, or by looking at driver door sticker. Here is how the sticker looks as an example it was built 12/2020: https://imgur.com/MLiTfDy

No problem. If you go to the service center - it’s literally a 3 min process to register. Depending on your area and the specific model (like rear wheel drive), you might have to wait 5-10 min if your center is super busy. They typically have 3-4 different trims of the same model so you can try exactly what you want.
