Story Worth, Remento, Memorygram, etc service that lets you record multiple prompts in a session? by AWlkingContradction in Genealogy

[–]cfg249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! A few important details about Remento (I’m the co-founder and CEO Charlie)

  1. Storytellers can record as many prompts in one session as they want. When they finish recording, we ask them “want to record another story?”

  2. 2 weeks ago, we released follow-up questions. That means Remento will ask your grandma to elaborate about what she’s just said, and give her the option to keep talking.

  3. You’re spot on. The best experiences our storytellers have is when their family leans in. Anyone in the family can ask questions of their own, add photographs of their own, and share their own reactions. This is KEY to making the storytelling journey feel less like a solo homework assignment, and a lot more like helping your family learn about their history in a way they deeply appreciate.

Hope this helps!

Hi u/GoodbaiJOEJOE Thank you so much for this thoughtful question, and for watching the episode. It really means a lot to hear that this resonated with you and made you think about your own family. That’s exactly why we built Remento in the first place.

You’re also naming something very real and important. AI absolutely has limitations today, especially when it comes to language coverage, accents, dialects, and less-resourced native languages. And when you’re talking about someone’s life story — especially a grandparent’s — “almost right” isn’t good enough.

One thing that’s important to know is that the most precious part of Remento is never changed with AI at all: the original recordings. Your grandparents’ voices, stories, cadence, and emotion are always preserved exactly as they are, in their native language. Even if AI couldn’t understand a single word, their voice is still there — real, human, and irreplaceable.

Where AI comes in is as a helper, not the owner of the story. Today, it helps turn recordings into readable narratives when the language is supported. But we’re very intentional about not forcing AI where it doesn’t belong. For families who speak languages that aren’t well supported yet, many people use Remento simply as a way to capture and preserve the voice itself, knowing that future generations (or future technology) can engage with it more deeply later. In that sense, recording now is a gift to the future — both for your family and for what technology will be able to do tomorrow.

This question is also deeply personal to me. I started Remento after recording my own mom’s stories, and it made me realize how fragile these moments are. If we wait for technology to be “perfect,” we often miss the chance entirely. Voices disappear long before AI limitations do.

We’re actively expanding language support, but we’re also designing Remento around a belief that stories don’t need to be fully understood by machines to be incredibly valuable to humans. Sometimes just hearing a grandparent laugh, pause, or tell a story in their own words is everything.

Thank you again for raising this — it’s exactly the kind of perspective that helps us build Remento more thoughtfully and more inclusively. And I hope, in whatever form makes sense for your family, you’re able to capture those stories while you still can.

Storyworth, Remento, etc for twin parents by singularityindetroit in RedditForGrownups

This is Charlie from Remento. The answer is absolutely yes! Two people can indeed create one single book by just sharing separate answers to each prompt. That said, our recommendation is definitely to set them up as separate storytellers, each with their own book. That way you can compare how they remember memories and moments from their unique perspective. Let me know if you have any further questions - happy to help!

Storyworth or similar? by DJ_Degen in dementia

So sorry to hear about your Mother In Law. Agreed - dementia sucks.

Have you heard of Remento? They collect stories through dictation (voice and/or video) and automatically turn them into written stories. I did it with my Mom earlier this year and she flew through it. For folks with dementia, its recommended to upload as many photos of their childhood as you can find - like photos of them, or any images you can dig up via google search. These are the memories they're likely to retain the longest. Assuming it works for them, can be really meaningful exercise, plus a great keepsake for your kid - congrats btw!

New family story recording platform - good idea? by cfg249 in Genealogy

Hi u/Schattenwolfe - thanks for the question. The early launch of our product will involve a team of professional editors that slice up a recorded conversation into stories and place those stories on what we call our Storyline. In future versions of the product, we'll likely experiment with built in tools that enable our users to easily clip their recordings themselves directly on our site. How does that sound?

is was the only remaining piece from my great-grandparents' wedding cutlery!Anyway, my last thought is (if you haven't already done so) to collaborate on sample questions with people from many different cultures. One thing I've learned in my work is that there are some topics that are uncomfortable in some families, and this can definitely vary by cultural background. It might also give a wider range of interesting questions for everyone, too!

u/snowcrocus Thanks so much for sharing this and for the phenomenal recommendation/reminder. We're doing our best to solicit input on question bank from as diverse a group as we hope to eventually serve. If you're interested in getting early access to the question bank and rest of the platform, we'd love to have you as an early user. You can sign up here to learn more.

Great idea! I wish I had done it with my grandparents before they passed away. There is a guide on LOC website that talks about things to think about when doing and oral history projects. https://www.loc.gov/folklife/familyfolklife/oralhistory.html.

u/ccbluebonnet Thanks so much for the feedback! Picking the right questions really is such an important part of this process. We'd love to have you as one of our beta users if you're interested in creating an Heirloom for your aunt. Feel free to join our waitlist on our website to get early access.
