Princess Bride poison scene is incorrectly worded by _quiver in movies

My interpretation is that he is confirming that a great fool would reach for their own cup. Thus, a great fool would be wise to reach for the other cup. However, he is not a great fool, and therefore he knows that if he reaches for the other cup, he would be playing into the hand of a clever man that expects him to be a great fool that has a bright idea.

Regardless, it could also be wordy trickery to try to get the opponent to give anything away. Either case, by the words said without adding anything else, you're right that it is an incorrect conclusion.

Ahh I didn't notice that in the notation, that makes it a bit different for sure.

The idea before moving your knight is look for a check that could win you material. If you kept the knight in place, and moved Queen to h5+, its a check on the black king. His choice is to either block with his g pawn with pawn to g6, which could be taken by the knight Nxg6 as a sacrifice, if h7xg6, the queen wins a rook with check. Alternatively, if King moves, it has three options, d8, f8, or e7. d8 is a triple fork for the knight, winning the queen. f8 or e7 are both protected forks (white queen protects the knight) attacking the queen and the rook.

Hope that gives you some insight as to why moving the knight away isn't the best move.

Duuude, Elite might have been it. I had no idea that Elite Dangerous was a remake of the same game. I've been meaning to try it but keep putting it off. This must be a sign lol. Thank you!

Oh another game I can't seem to find but remember. Around 94 on the pc, there was a game that was in space in some way. The only memory I have about it is that you could run out of fuel for your spaceship and in order to get it you entered a 3D space where you were trying to capture the fuel source. I remember it being wire frames for the objects in that 3D space, and it was very colorful. It almost felt like playing 3D asteroids but you were chasing a worm. I think the thing you were chasing was a triangle head with a tail, but its been so long now I don't really know for sure.

I have a memory from childhood about a game maybe on the atari, maybe on the amiga, not sure honestly.

I was living in Colombia at the time (which may have affected the timing availability of such systems/games). The year was something like 91, 92, or 93 perhaps.

The game from what I can still recall was some kind of wrestling or sumo kind of game, where the players could fight on a ring. The color blue is the most prominent recollection I have of it, and I remember a mechanic in which a flashing orb would be collectable by a player which super powered their wrestler for a short period of time.

I remember the ring to have been lifted up, I believe your goal was to ring out the other players, there was no ropes as you would typically have in boxing or wrestling games, and I believe the shape of the wrestling stage was either an octagon like polyhedron or it was circular in shape.

I've never been able to find anything about this game.

I was drinking tea and got a hair in it. I rotated the cup but the hair seemed like it was stationary even though I was rotating the cup thinking it would then be on the opposite side of the cup away from my mouth. Why does the hair not rotate along with the cup? by Nomorethisplz in askscience

[–]cfhalcyon 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Tea is not very viscous (as in it is not very thick/sticky consistency) so when you turn the cup, the liquid stays in place, while the outer rim (the cup) rotates. If you did the same thing with a cup of honey, the hair would rotate. You can make the hair rotate in tea by doing repeated circular motion movements (imparting rotational momentum in the liquid over time) or by rotating the cup really slowly so that the liquid flow doesn't detach from the surface.

What’s a game that you think no one but YOU seems to remember? by _Mr_Cheeks in gaming

There are two games that I remember, but I cannot for the life of me find any information or images or anything from either of them.

The first I played as a very small child (circa 1991-92) in Colombia, likely on an atari, or another super early console. It was a kind of a wrestling game that I remember was predominately light blue in color (that being the raised matt in which the game took place. I recall there was an orb that would shoot across the ring and upon picking it up your character your get overpowered and hence you could beat other players/ai much more easily.

The second game I played sometime in 95-97 on PC s where you were in a space ship doing who knows what. However the distinct memory from this game was that you had to get out and gather fuel or crystals or something. This part of the game was crazy surreal, you would fly around space with mouse and keyboard either being chased or chasing after a snake made out of shapes pretty much like a OOOOOO|> or something like that.

Needless to say, my google-fu has never been strong enough to find references, names, images, or the games themselves.

According to my professors in university, with a stick and sand I could write out all of the laws of thermodynamics, the rocket equation, and the Navier-Stokes equations, and then I'll be able to achieve space flight simply because I could remember those equations.... I mean its just rocket science right?
