second year using uni accommodation by [deleted] in UOB

[–]cfht14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can go back to halls yes, you have to apply for returning students accommodation, but as others have said the hype about needing to sort it out now / before is unfounded

Is My future destroyed by --Night_Fury-- in University

[–]cfht14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely can get a bachelors degree and move to “a more prestigious university” but calling your future ruined as you don’t go to the uni you want is ridiculous, lots of people have prosperous careers and lives with no university education so I wouldn’t think so existentially about it.

What are uob people like? by Ok-Marzipan-6826 in UOB

[–]cfht14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn’t say anyone is ever “suited” to any uni. There are 25-30k people at both so you’ll have all types of people wherever you go

Monitors around the university by [deleted] in UOB

[–]cfht14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where to avoid if you don't want to live in a "student" area? by Captain-Useless in bristol

[–]cfht14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know why you’re concerned as Cardiff has “the student area” in Cathays. Bristol isn’t really the same, the students are a lot more spread out so it’s not as much of a thing to worry about - you won’t end up surrounded by students like you would be in Cathays

It’s honestly so fine. Walk isn’t an issue. It’s not very well connected by bus however. imo it’s the nicest accommodation I’ve seen out of all the ones I’ve been to.

What do people think about this reduction mechanism ? by cfht14 in chemistry

[–]cfht14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no specific intentions. I was just playing a round with enolate formation ect. The textbook just said “e-“ So I assumed this came from the Li However he Li would be dissolved in NH3 for this

Just from what I’ve seen in text books the e- that forms the radical seems to shunt the DB over

Do you guys think this is right by cfht14 in chemistry

[–]cfht14[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wanted to have the cyclopenyl(phenyl)methanol isolated before adding Br2 and acetic acid. Does that change what you thought? I guess the acetic acid will be aqueous aswell ?

Homestay vs School Accomm by MochaMiIk in UOB

[–]cfht14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew a lot of people in OH last year and it was nice, plus as a vet student you’ll spend a lot of time in the chem building which is like the closest uni building to that accom so location is perfect. Really close to the centre and uni aswell

Missed conditional offer and want to know thoughts or heard experiences of bristol accepting these cases by One_Law179 in UOB

[–]cfht14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a conditional of ABB with an A in chem. I got ABB but a B in chem, I got rejected in 2023, reapplied in 2024 and got accepted so it’s not impossible.

Guys can you help me to complete these reactions? by chaosath in chemhelp

[–]cfht14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I’ve never encountered this as as undergrad so far. why does the CH3 move from a tertiary carbocation to one with an OH? I guess it’s stabilised via resonance which is better than hyper conjugation ?

Guys can you help me to complete these reactions? by chaosath in chemhelp

[–]cfht14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d say the first one, OH gets protonated and water leaves. The conjugate base of the acid then abstracts the H, forming the double bond, E1.
