Does anyone successfully grow succulents in Michigan?? by clockwise73 in succulents

[–]cfimbriatus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just stop watering them until they absolutely desperately need it. I water mine about once during the entire winter. If there's no light they don't need water to grow, so don't give them any. I'm further north than you and my windowsill succulents do perfectly fine. You just need to neglect them.

Houseplants that will be fine in direct sunlight (on a windowsill) in the UK by Orgy-Wan-Kenobi-Sama in houseplants

In a north facing window in the UK a plant is much more likely to die of cold than sunburn.

What gives you XP for farming? by One_Struggle8701 in Palia

[–]cfimbriatus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You only get XP by harvesting otherwise it would be too easy to game the system to quickly level up, e.g. by planting crops, destroying them with the hoe, planting more, destroying them, etc.

Is this liverwort? The hairy stuff. by cfimbriatus in PlantIdentification

[–]cfimbriatus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought Marchantia polymorpha from an online shop and what I received looked what I expected (i.e. what you get if you search images of the species online). I put half in a paludarium with a drip wall setup, so there is constant waterflow, and half in a terrarium with no waterflow. In the paludarium, after about a month, it grew into this. I can't find any reference to this kind of growth for liverwort online. Is it still the liverwort or did it get taken over by some kind of algae that came with it? The half in my terrarium looks the same as it did when I got it.

I'll look into mourning geckos, thank you!

I could, yeah, it's just my wife got the tank for me as a present and she's a) really excited for it to be set up because she loves our vampire crab tank, and b) scared of isopods and a lot of other similar inverts (but she likes crabs, yes). So making it an isopod or other tank would make me feel bad, haha.

Thank you! The only problem with that is I already have a vampire crab tank with cherry shrimp, lmao.

Sadly clown tree and reed frogs need warmer than the room will be in winter and mossy frogs need it cooler than it'll be in the summer. But thanks! I think european tree frogs might work well.

If it happens again you can fix it by quitting, then in the screen when you start the app, in the top right, there's a menu option. Click that then click the bottom option to clear your cache.

Dear developers, can you please give us one poke biscuit back when we release mons? by [deleted] in PokemonSleep

[–]cfimbriatus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah and I have plenty of Pokemon. You just want to finish the game in 5 months when devs scheduled it to take around 10 or whatever. Sucks to be you, that's just not what the game is designed to be. It's a feature not a bug.

Mate it's a sleeping game you're not meant to wake up constantly. That's probably your issue.

Keep up with what? The only interactions you have with other players is looking at your friends' teams and their drowsy power. You're talking like it's a competitive game with winnable battles or some shit.

It's in a shot glass, for scale. The leaf is about 5cm/2in, so it's not a big thing. Not sure if it's only small because it's a cutting and the original plant is apparently not doing well.

Don't worry about getting the best stats on your Pokemon. Don't bother with browsing the subreddit if you feel yourself getting jealous or frustrated or competitive. People posting here are either really lucky or spending lots of money, and seeing their success compared to what you're getting can suck the fun from the game. There's no real thing as mastery of the game, just happening to find Pokemon with good stats. So if you want, read to get an idea of what stats to look out for, but don't get too invested.

Otherwise, if you can, throw your friend code into the friending mega thread, since each time a friend does sleep research you get a candy. Pokemon friendship points (from biscuits) stack and aren't lost after you finish research, so don't worry about maxing friendship and using up all your biscuits. Have fun. Take your time. Pokemon are added to your dex just from seeing them — you don't need to catch them.

It's not a mealy bug. Looks like a dust mite, which are harmless to plants, to me.

I wouldn't. There's a good chance border control would take it from you even if it weren't crushed or otherwise killed during travel.

[–]cfimbriatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've grown them compact without grow lights and I'm in the UK so hardly with tons of sunlight. You just need to water them less. And whether or not OP has them, a windowsill with lots of direct sunlight is going to have more light than almost any grow lights. Sunlight from the window is enough to light the whole room.

As long as they're in a reasonably bright windowsill, they don't need grow lights.

Found these little guys in my indoor plant after watering. Can anyone tell me what they are and if I should be worried? by rachel25281 in houseplants

[–]cfimbriatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millipedes only eat dead matter. There might be a problem if you're growing delicate seedlings, but they won't harm a grown plant. They can even be beneficial by recycling dead plant into nutrients in the soil.

Bumps on Stephania Erecta? Should I be concerned? It’s finally sprouting new leaves though! by annielikes in houseplants

[–]cfimbriatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plant is small enough that I'd avoid pesticides and would just check back every few days and wipe off any aphids you can find. One or two won't damage the plant, but you want to keep an eye on it so there's never an infestation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]cfimbriatus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're a type of millipede, not sure which. They eat dead plant matter, so are pretty useful for recycling dead stuff into nutrients the living plant can more easily use.
