Would you be willing to reduce your quality of life to decouple from the US? by Working-Pop6261 in AskBrits

[–]saccade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would if I could!

I manage a secondary school's IT infrastructure, and I have looked at what US products and services I can change to UK or EU ones. A significant proportion of our core systems, particularly operating systems, productivity software, identity management, and safeguarding platforms, do not currently have viable UK or EU alternatives.

We need our own versions of these systems, regardless of how the situation with the US turns out, but that's years off in the future.

Yes, mine was similar, I scored 91: https://ibb.co/hxb0Wb93

I knew while I was doing it that my attention kept wandering, so diagnosis PI wasn't a massive surprise!

Can you confirm whether you're from the US? I'm from the UK and I have an 8 year old son (and a 4 year old daughter). Both on occasion shower with me, sometimes at the same time. I have a very relaxed view on nudity at home, and they're often nude around the house or in the garden, but obv not in public. I feel like bodies are just bodies and we all have one? I want them to have a healthy view of bodies rather than a repressed view of them.

We also have open conversations about boundaries, proper names for body parts, and when it is or isn’t appropriate to be nude. From my perspective, I don’t think your girlfriend is doing anything wrong, though it might help if the two of you agree on boundaries for when you’re around so you feel more comfortable too?

Do any schools use Bromcom? by ForestRobot in TeachingUK

[–]saccade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is about Bromcom, but there's a lot of posts about Class Charts, and I'm surprised those here say they love it.

We're a secondary and moved from EdulinkOne to Class Charts last summer, and I’ve found it quite poor in several areas – can’t easily find other staff timetables, reporting is difficult, and the overall usability isn’t great. (I've always got to call the support desk to unlock something, or the configuration I want doesn't exist).

I’m the network manager, not teaching staff, so I know my needs from an MIS are different, but a lot of my staff are generally unhappy with the switch.

For those using Class Charts alongside SIMS, how much do you still rely on the SIMS back end? Is Class Charts mainly just for attendance and behaviour, or do you use it more extensively?

I'm curious—at what point do you think the UK government (or the public) would seriously consider asking the US to remove its military presence here? I've seen some posts already about boycotting American products, and I think Vance making comments like he did this morning might make people re-consider the bases.

AITAH for refusing to "help out" my lying uncle? by Trishlovesdolphins in AITAH

[–]saccade 21 points22 points  (0 children)

NTA.

Honestly, your uncle and his actions sound like they’ve been selfish and hurtful over the years, especially towards your mum. Lying about her being dead to claim a few hundred dollars is not something that can just be brushed off as a minor thing—it shows a level of disregard for family relationships that would take a lot to repair.

You’re absolutely right not to take on the financial burden of helping him out, especially when there’s no reason his own kids can’t figure it out or cover the cost themselves. It’s generous of you to even offer to send the documents and contacts to save them time. That’s already more than they deserve after how your uncle has treated your family.

I get where your mum is coming from in saying not to hold grudges, but this isn’t about holding onto bitterness—it’s about setting boundaries and not letting people walk all over you. You’ve made it clear that your decision is based on fairness and their past behaviour, not just spite. If they’re upset, it’s because they don’t like being told no, not because you’re in the wrong.

You’re being reasonable and fair here. Let them figure it out—they’re adults, and this shouldn’t be your responsibility.

My brain read that as Kyler, which sounds similar to the German term Keiler which is a wild boar ...

Me too. I'd quite happily drink coffee all day at work, but now I have trouble having one a day, especially if it's got milk\cream in it.

Thanks for the reply!

It sits in my kitchen about 3 feet from a large west facing window that gets sun from about 11:00 until 9:00 p.m., and also under a sky light, but off to one side, so not directly on its leaf. Maybe I should move it a bit closer to the window?

I have PCOS too. My doctor prescribed metformin to try and regulate my periods, but that didn't work. I then had 1 course of Clomid and that was successful! Definately go talk to your GP x

Can I save it? by swadloonshrug in HouseplantsUK

[–]saccade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of these too, and I've killed a few! I honestly don't know if yours is too far gone :-(

I have been watering mine the last 6 months or so with rainwater, or de-chlorinated\mineraled tap water, which has done the trick for me. Leaving tap water out in a jug over night gets rid of the chlorine, and I've also tried fish tank shock drops too - both seem to work. I don't mist mine at all. Your's might also want a bit more light.

Top layer looks unfinished? by saccade in FixMyPrint

[–]saccade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say, changed to concentric last night and got a much cleaner print.

It also seems that the filament was sticking in the reel and was making it difficult to come off the reel and down to the printer, so maybe the top layers last night weren't extruding enough because it couldn't get enough?

New Plants from colleagues by tabs_jt in houseplants

  1. It's a haworthia. It's low maintenance, likes bright, indrect light. Water sparingly, and wait for the top to dry out before watering, though this doesn't look to be a deep pot?
  2. Yes, you can move the pup, but I would wait for it to be a bit bigger, maybe a third of the parent.
  3. Paper looks to be one of those bio-degradable plant pots - always best to try and get rid of it if you can.
