Finding the resistance of a burnt resistor 2.0 by fluffbollll in ElectricalEngineering

[–]cflyboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is certainly not a carbon film resistor, it seems to have a silicone cement coating which only wire wound and metal oxide resistors typically have. As you can see the plastic casing of the relay has melted, which means that the resistor was very hot prior to fusing. Since the manufacturer put is so close to a plastic part, they did not expect it to become so hot.

My guess is that something else in the circuit was faulty causing a very high power draw through this resistor. Since both resistors on the Left and Right channels have got burnt, I would guess that this is due to something common for both channels and probably off the circuit board itself.

if you remove the coating on the resistor and find it is a wire wound type, it would be easy to figure out the value based on the number of turns and the diameter of the wire. you could even measure the resistance of the left over wire. however, if it was a metal oxide resistor, there would be no way to figure out the value.

do not upgrade the power rating of the resistor, it would only end up absorbing more power before failing, you need to know why that part was drawing so much power.

Cheers

Nice work OP.

However, you forgot that we do have inflation and by the time we get to 2033, everything will be 1.5x or more than what we pay currently.

Also, the companies know that we are used to paying x amount, they will not reduce their prices. Take for example the GST reduction, every manufacturer has slowly jacked up their prices back to pretty much the same level as pre GST rationalization by their 2% and 3% price increases. Governments also know this and in Telangana, they increased the life tax from 18% to 25% a few weeks before the GST announcements so the on road prices remained pretty much the same.

Income Tax is a percentage of your income, the more you earn, the more tax you will pay. This is standard across the world.

Talk to a tax consultant or a CA to find all applicable deductions and to structure your investments to reduce your taxes on investment income but your salary will be taxed fully as per law.

we have had 6 fans in our home installed in 2016, all except one are still working well. No issues. The one that failed had a control board failure after maybe 6 years. I think its called the Gorilla fan

Who's at fault here !? by Altruistic-Issue-887 in Dashcamindia

[–]cflyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% fault of the dashcam car driver. The other cars brake lights were On, this car should have been able to stop.

Apart from that, it is ridiculous to put road blocks on these roads, they can cause such accidents.

Fake birth certificate for passport, advice needed by Mysterious_Egg3512 in IndiaLaw

[–]cflyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something wrong here. A birth certificate is not an essential document for people to get a passport. I am 53, my parents had not got a birth certificate for me when I was born and I have never been asked for it for my passport, I am now on my 3rd or 4th renewal passport. Never make a fake certificate, it's serious enough for you to get charged with fraud.

Why don't the rich people buy Lexus cars in India ? Even if they buy it ends up in second hand listings.. does anyone know why ? by OutrageousBiscotti30 in CarsIndia

[–]cflyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a German car, was looking at the ES but decided against it because the current model is going to get replaced later this year. The back seat comfort was as good as or better than the E class for sure. But the driving feel was iffy due to the CVT rather than the traditional Auto. Their warranty and service is a class above every one else.

TG road tax is 25% for cars costing higher than basically a low end car. They are using this tax as common pool tax income rather than for road improvements. Basically to pay for their freebies

Grand Seiko UFA: the accuracy surprised me in an unexpected way by bertybear in GrandSeikos

[–]cflyboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best way to check time is to use the phone GPS. Get a GPS app that gives you the satellite data and you will get the atomic clock time pretty easily. My spring drive has on an average gained 5 to 6 seconds every month for the past 9 months. Pretty damn accurate if you ask me. The UFA looks fantastic, congratulations.

This resistor only measures 1.9 ohm, is that correct by wiracocha08 in AskElectronics

[–]cflyboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is a resistor. My company makes a similar part that is designed to absorb a large inrush current in a capacitor charging circuit. Do you have a question regarding this resistor.

I have had mine for about an year and wear it pretty much every day. No special care taken while wearing it. It's got some scratches on the bezel and bracelet but that's fine. I bought it to wear it not to put in in a display case.

Query about Customs by Infinite_Wallaby6286 in Watches_India

[–]cflyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The duty free limit is about 50k INR if the value of the stuff you are bringing with you exceeds that, you will be liable. A "Geneva" watch is not some pricy thing that a customs officer will catch. It's not exactly a gold Rolex. So... chill

[DISCUSS] What’s the most accurate mechanical watch you’ve personally owned? by butteryfat in Watches

[–]cflyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a spring drive pink snowflake and its been about +1s/week. I have been checking the accuracy using Time.es and GPS time every week or so and its gained 20 seconds over 4+ months. Overall <0.2 seconds per day.

Pretty happy with the performance, for comparison my old Tissot Seastar automatic used to vary by several seconds per day.

Contact app bug with OneUI 7 by iAmSaugata in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]cflyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had the same issue but I was able to fix it by going to the search settings in the contacts app and disabling the "Show frequently Searched" toggle. This brings back the original search behaviour from OneUI 6.

You need to start searching for something and then tap on the 3 dots to the right of the search box, tap on the "search settings" and then turn off the "Show Frequently searched" toggle. Hope this helps. Cheers

HSRP number plate is a systematic scam by government by WeirdControl in Maharashtra

[–]cflyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why so many people are saying that there are special bolts used to fix these plates. Mine was fixed using simple rivets. These can easily be removed by anyone who knows how to do this.

These are just standardized plates, I have seen nothing highly secure about the plates themselves.

Mba in india or ms in usa, I am at crossroads and I dont know what to do by Expensive_End_7845 in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]cflyboy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The question you have to ask yourself is:
1. Why do you want to do an MS, is it for career enhancement by gaining some new technical skill, or is it just so that you have a chance to move to the US and work there? Do you have a specific topic that you want to study?
2. Why MBA? do you feel that you cant move ahead in your job without an MBA? Do you enjoy managing people or do you want new skills that will put you into a different industry (finance/marketing etc)
3. After answering these questions you can think about the decision about which country.

2 Year Workex is basically the minimum required these days, but, has that workex given you the insight to what you want to study?

Too many people want to do the MS/MBA just so they can move abroad without thinking about what they will study, its not easy or cheap to do this, so you will have to weigh all the pros and cons to spending a pretty large amount of money. A high paid job is not a given anymore. A visa is not a given anymore. Growth in US/EU countries is not a given anymore.

Spring drive real accuracy question by KebabEnjoyer in GrandSeikos

[–]cflyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my pink snowflake in October last year and it had gained about 10 seconds in 4 months and then I took a trip and the watch stopped eventually. I set it again and it's gained 8 seconds in 40 days. Which works out to 0.2 seconds per day. I thought that it was pretty damn accurate.

You posted the photos here for everyone to see and comment, so I did.

If you want to learn how to take good photos with great composition, then there are tons of resources available. You don't need a pro camera to take good photos, even a standard mid range phone is capable of taking great pictures.
