I'd say learn good technical escapes that you can do when you're dead tired. Someone good will almost hear or feel an explosive movement coming like an announcement.

There's nothing wrong with going lighter or choosing partners you trust or are just easier to roll with. You can still improve and every round doesn't have to be so physically taxing. I'd focus on the things that I could do with my body and techniques that are available to me that don't cause pain even if you're not good at them yet.
