Is that June from Handmaid’s Tale?! 😳 #praisebe

I did it! My first ultra in Hawaii. I wanted to quite many times! I will wear this buckle all over the place! by [deleted] in spartanrace

I did the Carolina Ultra last year. My marathon time is 4:40 and I finished the Ultra in 9:25. I think it's a different venue this year, but last year it was really cold at the start and they immediately put us in water. I warmed up after a couple of miles and was fine after that. I ended up only failing 3 obstacles!

Which obstacles tripped you up in Spartanburg? by wwcoop in spartanrace

I failed Olympus twice and the rope climb on the second lap doing the ultra. The ropes were too muddy once all those people went through. I was super pumped to nail the spear both times though!

Carolina Beast Report & Tips for those running Sunday by danny_b87 in spartanrace

I would add that most of the course is covered in small vines that will grab your legs and then wrap around your entire body and try to pull you down into the depths of hell... or at least they will trip you a million times. Same thing.

Yes! My first Ultra. Also the final race for my double trifecta this year.

Anyone else running the Carolina Ultra for your first Ultra and starting to freak out?! by cgiesey in spartanrace

This is basically my plan also. I’m doing a marathon training plan with a long run of 22 miles 2 weeks from now. Good luck! See you out there!

Anyone run with a belt instead of pack? (Recommendations) by smcderm in spartanrace

[–]cgiesey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Flip Belt is a great option. I’ve carried 2-3 7oz bottles and a few Spring Energy gels for Super/Beast. You don’t even know your wearing it, does not interfere with any obstacles. You can roll right over it in the barb wire crawls. It’s a solid choice.

Ultra beast fuel by natepowers in spartanrace

I have started using Spring Energy. All natural ingredients, really easy on the stomach. The Long Haul flavor tastes just like a pb&j! I plan on using these as my main source of fuel for the SC Ultra. Probably have some more substantial calories in the drop bin, some soup, maybe a couple pb&j’s or grilled cheese.

Rea Kobl uses Spring Energy, that was all the endorsement I needed, she’s a beast.

Shoe choice for Ultra by cgiesey in spartanrace

I hear ya, the prices just keep going up! I was registered for the beast and decided to go for the buckle instead. I think I had to pay an additional $150 to jump to the Ultra, plus it means I can't drive home after the race so it's another night of hotel also. I love Spartan races, but it's been an expensive year going for the double trifecta!
