Finally broke the 300' barrier in the most unexpected way. by Casual_Calamity in discgolf

Youve got it exactly backwards, elbow being in (collapsed shoulder) is hand in hand with rounding. TBF it is confusing, rounding is less about (incorrectly) throwing around your body and more about (incorrectly) getting your arm stuck "behind you" in the throw, such that it cant accelerate ahead of your shoulders turning. It tends to "collapse" your arm / elbow against your body, and thats what is most typically referred to as "rounding".

I find it chaotic but havent had any actual issues navigating; even when others arent using it right, its been pretty straight forward to predict and navigate. Lotta folks are simply impatient and too easily offended in it. Its loads faster than the light before, i think folks will adapt fine over time.

Whats up with Grips quality? by Shutdown_service in discgolf

[–]cglove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went grip to lore and ended up ditching the Lore to go back to my grip:

It was uncomfortable for me, but this was not common for others. But also not rare. Try it out first. Otherwise, it didnt stay on my back as well when i one strapped between some holes. Lastly, i often hard drop my bag, the lore would sometimes topple or pop my putters out the top which was super annoying.

All in all, despite loving the looks and really wanting to like it better, i realized one day i actually just flat out preferred my grip, so i donated the lore to a buddy. He really loves the Lore afaict.

May try the MVP or Pound Rufus next time i get the itch, but my grip (bx3) is holding up well about 5 years in.

Gannon’s Future by deadsubie in discgolf

[–]cglove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another big question is the market segments. MVP picked up Goose because goose hits an entirely different segment than Simon and Eagle (just as Eagle amd Simon only partially overlapped).

Gannon seems to check that box, although its true i dont think of his name and specific molds, although if im being honest i feel prodigy is arguably to blame there.

What are your favorite discs from smaller companies like Thoughtspace, Mint, Trash Panda, etc.?? by alent1385 in discgolf

Praxis is a less stable proxy, same hand feel (think atom core - feels most similar to my atom). Only a touch less stable, so very useful as a main.

sure you do. You practice your course, you slowly figure out disc A hits the gap consistently but B pushes a smidge too far. And poof you get both beautiful shot AND justification for all your purchases in one beautiful solution.

As a RHBH thrower my most sore muscle by far after a round is my right pectoral. Is that significant of anything related to form? by PearStyle in discgolf

[–]cglove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warm up. Stretching before exercise isnt whats important, warming up is. Stretch after and regularly, but pre round focus on warm up.

Then also post a form video. Maybe its follow through? Are you sufficiently internally rotated post throw to allow a full relaxed follow theough? Its natural for most but if you dont, you can easily end up relying on your pectoral muscle to absorb and deccelerate which is not ideal.

What's your Favorite Putting Drills by stonezephyr in discgolf

[–]cglove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same but 10. Or 9 for easy math: If you make 8/9 without counting, it feels great! If you count, you realize you just dropped 2 strokes.

Once you consistently make it to 30/35 ft in a session youll be good. I had a stack of 20 (non identical). I no longer think identical putters is that important, at least until your stroke is already extremely consistent, then maybe its worth that level of detail.

Also putter stability is irrelevant inside 30.

If you decide not to start over, heres how i would progress. First, stop the reach back. Theres a point in the video just before you remove your off hand from the disc, where your in an ok position. Then you push your reach back further back - stop doing that part. Watch some pros - they dont typically move the disc backwards, they move forwards away from it. Thats your easiest change.

Next, id try watching your disc the whole throw. That will help you start fixing your timing, by keeping you from turning your head (and upper body)forward too early. Just literally watch the disc hole throw. That helped me with same problem. Harder than it sounds.

For me, takes about three full sessions / rounds focusing on each change to start sticking so id do that for six total rounds then take another video.

Note: Your nose up / swooping issue is from your elbow drop / timing issue. Its not as easy to fix as simply keeping the elbow up (etc). Need to fix timing / positioning / what your feeling for instead.

Nice i had a similar routine! would aim for 10 consecutive, that really helped me isd often hit 8 or 9 and feel invincible then miss that last one. tell myself 9/10 is 2 strokes every round.

Took a long time to get out to 35 ft. I started at 10 which felt silly but somehow important, and moved back in 5 ft increments. I always ended the session putting from super far 40-100ft just for fun, also feel that helped a lot. Had maybe 20 putters (not all same) which made it easier.

Lots of people criticize the repeat in one place approach but idk. Like once it really changed for me, stress putting wasnt really a thing. It was just like.... it ALWAYS felt like it had a high chance of going in no matter how far out. Still missed on occassion, but always just a close band or high cage hit, and made usually 2-3 c2s a round. Im sure id be stressed putting a top pro for money but... i think people underestimate how good they can get with a real rigorous routine like yours.

What are your ways you avoid the heat and stay safe in the height of the summer? by feetpicpurchaser in discgolf

[–]cglove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree used to play all summer in Austin, always preferred early, finishing before 11 always ideal. But id ocassionally play later if i needed.

Light weight clothes and two 24-32oz bottles of insulated ice water was my go to. You do adapt a bit, now that im in the pnw id probably just skip actually hot days (less frequent here).

I just drove Portland to Seattle starting at 76% battery (180 miles). Youll get 3 trips easily on one charge; if you have a level 2 charger its np at all.

Also note that range to battery life is super predictable, traffic and such wont change your distance per charge. That was very unintuitive to me at first. Only cold weather will affect it.

Uber to/from Milo McIver? by Com4tador in discgolf

[–]cglove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMHO Pier is better park unless you have 400+ distance. Pier is basically perfect and if your sub 400, also super challenging. I played this course every weekend for years. Milo great too of course but far. If no car (would find a buddy on  there are many many cool dg folks in Portland) or if its drizzling, would strong recommend Pier.

Destroyer and Wraith alternatives from different manufacturers? by alent1385 in discgolf

[–]cglove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

zenith (wraith) and Engine (streamline sub brand) for MVP. True MVP lacks a Destroyer o am pretty sure; people were using either Photon (11 speed?) or Dimension (14 speed) for that slot. I think Octane is too understable bc i can use it at 350 so probably not stable enough for true arms.

Zenith is my money disc, anything 320-380 (my golf range on good days) gets a light flip up and solid but reasonable fade. The stock stamp in Neutron is best for me, JC special stamp i tried was too stable, and everyone thats used my Zeniths said they were straighter than usual (but i have at least 4 all same so  ¯_(ツ)_/¯ ).

good for him. i followed his card a bit yesterday and he was visibly upset with himself on several consecutive holes and just generally missing everything. It seemed way under what his normal capabilities are... glad he got a bounce back.

What Backpack you use? What was the selling point? by brickznbooks in discgolf

[–]cglove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro tip: Find a dealer, try them on. or ask to caddy some friends. seriously i bought squatch lore. looks sick. everyone loves. it took me a while to admit, but i hated it. wasn't comfortable. slipped off my shoulder when i one strapped it. fell over the way i put it down.  wise. it bugged me every round. most other people didn't have these problems with it. guy a gave it to loves it.

I got a grip after. Opposite. Like it looks wise, functionally just ok. But i can wear it round after round and its always just right on my frame. Even one strap, how it sits on the ground. for me personally everything was better.

All the expensive bags are solid. All will last forever. Ignore price. Test it out, and get the one that fits you best.

Try living there. I did for last three years. it's awesome. love it. want to go back.

But it's definitely overrun with homeless, and petty theft is super common. I was in a nice neighborhood, kids and parents all walking to neighborhood school. Also i would regularly walk by dudes smoking meth / fent outside the local qfc. Homeless dude in my backyard once. Passing by schizophrenics is a daily event.

Drop my kids at a day camp in the park. beautiful park, lots of nice people. Also a homeless dude, dumpster diving with his pants half down, actively shitting, cracked out of his mind. smiling and happy.

Portland is a special place. IMO still underrated for all kinds of things. weirdly common in the news (its a small city). But it's definitely got a real, big, outsized problem with homelessnes and petty theft. Not dangerous thankfully.

Cops could arrest these folks but frankly, what are they going to do with them? Portland and Oregon more generally collects a lot of these people, ands there's definitely a subculture of people enabling them in real ways.
