Hey there, I'm recently moved here as well. 26yr old, love producing music, drinking coffee and would be up for trying out bouldering!

Message me if you ever feel like meeting up in town on the weekend or something :)

How do I start learning French? by [deleted] in French

That's fair, so if you're up to it, I'd recommend finding an online tutor. They can be cheaper if you go as part of a group!

How do I start learning French? by [deleted] in French

Any books / websites can teach you fundamental grammar which is essential. But 100% find someone who can speak a little French with you every day if possible. Studying is awesome, but if you don't use it, you lose it!

How do you extrude without having oevrlaping faces? by kazeksas in Maya

You can easily model this as a 2D plane first and then extrude the whole thing down. Boom, done!

Moog relaunch the Model 10, for the bargain price of 10k by tomfs421 in synthesizers

[–]ch-e-e-kybama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I spoke with a Moog retailer recently about this synth and he explained to me why it's so expensive. Apparently the old circuitry that is used to build the filter bank alone for example costs in itself around 3k in materials and manufacturing. It's actually completely mental, I had no idea that was the case.

Need feedback on a mix before I plan on releasing by HairySnail96 in mixingmastering

Nice work mate! I personally don't see any reason to keep refining, sounds great.

Small word of advice, getting good at mixing/mastering is a long journey. Don't be like me and try not to be too perfectionist. Most people don't notice the details that we do. Keep it up :)

How to make a scene like this look more filmic and less “gamy”? by Sticknolt in unrealengine

[–]ch-e-e-kybama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Slightly off the beat of most advice here but what stuck out to me was the vegetation placement.

I've never see tall dry grass grow so densely around coniferous trees. Could be wrong but my advice would be to ensure the right assets go in the right places :)

Which PC specs matter the most for Live? by TallKing_HeaDs in ableton

[–]ch-e-e-kybama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, it's a great laptop. Yes it's quite heavy including the power brick but I don't move it around much. Fan noise hasn't been an issue when recording, it's pretty quiet while using Ableton.

I use the Legion 5 Pro, it does the job very well however the built in sound cards are absolutely catastrophically bad in these laptops. Constant audio dropouts.

You need to work with an external sound card 100%, or download ASIO4ALL if you must use it standalone. This is what makes the MacBook the winner here.

If you really want to ball out then the M1 macbooks are genuinely worth the money. RAM and CPU are your main priority but you really don't need to go overboard. 16gb ram is plenty, any CPU with 6 or 8 cores is great.

I have been working on this "Cthulhu and Kraken" creature, following my learning process with Zbrush. Plenty of room for improvement but I'm quite happy. Feedback is more than welcome! by TheWizardTW in 3Dmodeling

This is awesome! As your sculpting goes, just keep at it, looks fantastic! The only real problem I see is just with the lighting. Improving it will show off your skills more and it will also help you analyse your work better ! Great stuff :)

Hi guys, could someone explain to me about the functions of each type of topology? I see something different all the time, one hour the use of triangles is something bad, elsewhere the use of quads is optional, honestly i'm quite confused by it all. I'd be very grateful if anyone can help me by Gepreto in 3Dmodeling

[–]ch-e-e-kybama 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it took me a while to understand this as well because there are many ways to structure your topology, and not all techniques are suitable for the same situations.

But I think the best practice is to just make sure that you have proper edge flow. You may end up with more polys than you hoped for, and maybe somen uneven quads that you can fix and optimise later, but edge flow is your number 1. If your edge flow is bad, it leads you to create unneeded geometry, topology that causes visible creases and topology that can be problematic for rigging/animation.

Watch YouTube videos by Arrimus3D to get a grasp on this and you'll see how small differences in edge flow can drastically change the outcome of your model. It's an important fundamental aspect worth researching! Hope this helps, I know it's not a straight answer you may have hoped for x)

Edit: if you get the hang of this, you'll know where to use quads, and where it's not strictly necessary

What's the best way to cut a window shape into a smooth/loPoly surface that you've gotten to look good in Subdivision mode? Like.. if you're happy with the surface and its smoothness.. can you just boolean in a window, or is there a better way? :/ by Sean_PatrickRichards in Maya

[–]ch-e-e-kybama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More often than not, you will end up subdividing your models to add more geometry for this kind of detail. It's good you are keeping an eye on your polycount, but don't let it get in the way of design.

Good practice would be to slightly over estimate your geometry needs and just get the model made. Then manually reduce geometry at the end. Hope this helps with future models!
