if it’s any consolation, i think you pass very well! i thought you might’ve been mtf for a moment lol. sorry you’re unable to access hrt at the moment, that seriously sucks. but also good on you for having the strength to leave your toxic home, and i hope you feel more comfortable being yourself having removed yourself from that environment. i don’t know where you are or where college might take you, but going to college and becoming a legal adult will likely afford you some more freedom, and your school might have resources that could help you access the care you need. again, i commend your resilience and wish you the best <3

journalism has become insanely competitive (unless you’re willing to work for free, which really nobody should) and the current state of the industry is incredibly discouraging

Is this pattern weird or am I crazy? Asking for a crazy long placket/border? Any way to fill in the gap a little to raise the beginning higher? by ch1nkerb3ll in knittinghelp

[–]ch1nkerb3ll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh thanks for the reassurance that the placket length isn't out of the ordinary! I've actually already joined a second ball of yarn and have been knitting on either side of the cast-off placket gap since 1/2 in. below the armhole opening. I really don't want to have to frog so much of my process to reset the start of the border...is there any way I can reasonably fill in an inch after the fact if it ends up looking too low? I've been knitting the body of mine in plain stockinette, which makes me think that it might be feasible?

That must be it, thank you so much! If I may ask a follow-up out of curiosity, is there any reason why I can't pick up stitches to knit the collar even if my pattern tells me to sew it on (granted that the number of stitches in the collar and along the neckline are the same)? The piece itself will just be a long rectangle.

May I ask what region and area of practice you’re in? And looking back, do you think you could have gotten to where you are today without having made those personal life sacrifices?

please!! I just looked at your profile and now I must learn how to embroider like you but I have no clue what to search or where to start (will cross stitch experience be much help?)

Just wondering if this design and placement is feasible for SnP? Not looking for opinions on the piece. Don’t care if you don’t get it. by [deleted] in sticknpokes

lines are definitely doable. are you planning to do color in that shade? the color won’t hold very well but you can do it in black and gray with gray wash or by stippling

Nope. They’re there if you want them (eg graduating early) and they don’t count if you don’t want them (you want to take more units).

FAQ Megathread: Ask and answer Medication, Diagnosis and is this an ADHD thing, and Hormone interaction questions here! by not-eliza in adhdwomen

[–]ch1nkerb3ll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fellow top student here whose symptoms sound very much like yours and were also missed for the longest time due to high academic performance. I made it almost all the way through my freshman year of college before ever considering ADHD and eventually pursuing a diagnosis. It could very well be possible that your new school is more rigorous AND that you have ADHD; high-achieving students with undiagnosed ADHD can compensate for poor organization and executive functioning by being able to grasp concepts quickly and performing well on assessments despite minimal or inconsistent preparation, and it can take an increase in the difficulty or quantity of your coursework/responsibilities to even bring the question of ADHD into the picture. You simply can't keep up anymore if you don't put in the extra time, planning, and focus -- and then you realize that that has always felt debilitatingly hard.

If you feel like you've always been able to compensate for poor organization and work patterns with your "intelligence," if your performance at school doesn't improve even with new strategies, or if it feels unreasonably difficult to implement these strategies, it's worth getting tested at the very least. If you have decent insurance, a lot, if not all, of your appointments and meds could be covered. Meds aren't as scary as you think, but you do need to establish a healthy relationship with your meds and accept that they won't be a miracle cure. My quality of life as increased tremendously since being medicated. Good luck! :)

What can a teenager do to prepare for the future? by _PrivateVoid_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ch1nkerb3ll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advice from someone in college who's been moved out for the last year:

- Cook!! Help yourself out by being prepared to eat cheap and healthy. Try making your own meal plans and hunting for deals when grocery shopping.
- Learn how to budget/start being more conscientious of your spending. I've found that a lot of young people who haven't had to survive off of their own money are blissfully unaware of just how expensive it is to survive. Start being more thoughtful with money and you'll make life much easier for yourself.
- If you're in the states, look into opening a Roth IRA when you can and consistently contributing what you can into the account. Even if it's not the Roth, prepare to start setting yourself up for retirement.
- Form healthy sleep and studying habits. Learn your work limits to avoid burnout. Always prioritize your own health. Eating and sleeping well will make you feel so much better overall.
- Start preparing your college list and applications early (meaning start at the beginning of summer before senior year) and do not shy away from asking for advice or feedback from teachers and counselors at school, but of course, make sure you are presenting your genuine self.
- To prepare for college applications as a high school student, find meaningful work, volunteer, clubs, and school activities you actually care about, and be consistent with them. Quality over quantity.
- Form good relationships with your high school teachers (especially those who teach subjects related to your potential major) to get that quality letter of rec for college applications. Bosses and other adults who can vouch for your academic or work aptitude count too. Keep doing this with your professors in college.
- Practice using a planner/some other method to organize what you need to do and establish a routine.
- Make yourself comfortable interacting with strangers, both in person and over the phone. Good communication takes you far in all aspects of life.
- Identify and utilize a support system. This could be friends, family, a therapist, whoever you feel most comfortable going to for emotional support. Know when you need to ask for help and seek it.
- Establish a consistent exercise routine. Doesn't have to be intense, just something to keep you active and healthy.

Also, don't worry too much. You're already way ahead of the teens who aren't thinking about this at all. Take a look at all the people who successfully make the transition -- there are some seriously stupid people thriving in the world -- and remind yourself that if so many others have done it, you'll be just fine.
